Grandparents Day
We had a great Grandparents Day. A special thank you to our Home and School leader, Martha Cavalcante, and all the parents who volunteered to help. Your kids had great fun performing for and spending time with grandparents. We had about 155 grandparents visit today. If you weren't able to attend, here are some pictures of all the fun.
The Young Peacemaker - Week 2
I have included an outline of what was discussed and taught this week. My hope is that this can benefit your family at home just as much as at school. Remember your child should already be familiar with these ideas.
“What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don't get it” (James 4:1-2)
THE BIG IDEA Conflict starts in the heart.
THE MAIN POINTS
Where does conflict come from?
Most conflicts happen because people make choices to get their own way. These choices usually come from selfish desires that are rooted in their hearts.
Examples of root desires that lead to selfish choices:
Selfishness: You want your own way
Self-pity: You feel sorry for yourself and you want others to feel sorry for you, too.
Greed: You want more and you are not content with what you have.
Pride: You think you are better than others.
Fear of others: You are afraid of what others think of you. You want to be liked.
You do not need to be controlled by these selfish desires. If you ask God, he will begin to replace them with the desire to love and please him, which will lead to good choices.
What causes conflict?
People make deliberate choices to satisfy their desires. In other words, they make choices on purpose.
Everyone is one hundred percent responsible for their own choices.
There are basically two categories of choices (good choices and bad choices) that people make, but they can come in different forms. Reflect on the list below
Good--Bad
Right--Wrong
Obedient--Disobedient
Respectful--Disrespectful
Wise--Foolish
Righteous--Sinful
Good reasons for conflict
You need to obey God by standing up for something you believe is right. It’s okay to share different opinions. However, it is wrong to put others down if they don’t share the same opinion.
