April 26th was an exciting day for our fourth graders here at Northside Intermediate School. The fourth graders worked very hard memorizing, and practicing several songs for there music program. Along with singing several songs, they students also got to play instruments such as the drums, recorders, xylophones, and the dulcimer. We would like to congratulate all of the fourth graders on a wonderful performance, that all of the parents, the principals, and I myself enjoyed.

To earn money, teachers will choose two students for each job. The list of jobs are, Checking Banker, Savings Banker, Insurance Salesman, and a Business License Checker, but everyone has the opportunity to be a salesman and run a business.
To lose money you can get “hit by the hand of fate”. On a select few days the sixth grade class goes out to the commons area and goes through a handful of scenarios, and as the name suggests, it's all in the hand of fate. That is where your insurance comes in, some people buy insurance but never need it, but some take risks and pay the price.
To buy things in money unit you can buy insurance, and there are auctions at the end of money unit where you can go buy gift cards, but the most popular is at market day where all the salesmen have booths that you can go buy from. Market days are at 2:40-3:30 on Tuesday, May 8th and Thursday, May 24th.

SOAR Accountability Poster Contest
By: Hannah
With accountability the main theme of our last assembly, we played a Kahoot about Northside. The Accountability Poster Contest was also introduced. Students were asked to make a creative poster about accountability on a piece of construction paper. Entries could include cartoons, pictures, and what accountability meant to you. Posters were highly recommended to be neat and organized, so students tried their very best.
There were 47 entries! The winning poster was made by Bethany in Mrs. Losching's room.
She will get Culver's in the office with a friend and staff member of her choice.
Clay Bobbleheads Are Being Made in Art
Article by: Guest Reporters, Koen and Cody
Ms. Mahoney is teaching 5th grade students how to make bobbleheads out of clay in art class. Bobbleheads have giant heads and small bodies. They were able to create their bobbleheads to represent anything. Some students are making basketball players, animals, video game characters, Disney characters, and other interesting pieces such as an owl holding Starbucks. Later they will use watercolors to paint them and create a background for their project.
Choir Performed at Festival
On April 18th, the Northside choir went to Lodi High School for a choir festival. They watched other schools perform and got to perform too! They performed a variety of songs, including: "A Better Place". After the performance, the choir went to a choir clinic. They were given compliments and positive feedback, including. "You are better than most high school choirs". They arrived back to Northside early due to the snow.
Northside Math Team Competes at Regional Math Meet
The Northside Math Team consisted of 4 fifth graders and 4 sixth graders, plus an alternate from each grade. The fifth graders were Hannah, Alec, Noah, and Karson. The sixth graders were Heidi, Sage, Logan, and Caleb. The alternates were Oskar and Jonathan.
On the day of the meet, we all met in the lobby and waited for everyone to arrive. When we were all ready we decided who was going into who's car. The two adults who were coming with us were Mrs. Nelson and Mr. Hoffman, we all walked through the back door and into one of the two cars. And started to drive to Fort Atkinson, we were all excited to be part of something like this. And talked the whole way there.
When we got there everybody was nervous as we walked toward the middle school, we walked up the stairs to the library. When we arrived in the library we saw at least 8 different schools. We each walked to a one person station with a name tag that said, “Milton” and sat down, waiting for the tests to start. We started with story problems without calculators, then two tests with calculators, by then we were really nervous on how we did.
We took a break and started a new test, mental math. After we finished that, we did the team problems. We split into four different groups to work on each page. We had 45 minutes to complete all the questions. And we all carefully and quickly filled in the answers, and if we got done we would help the other groups. The timer rang out just before the last question was answered. As we waited for the results, we did a STEM project. Each school was split into two groups. About 30 minutes later, two projects were chosen for being the most creative.
By then, the judges were done grading, an adult announced the two schools that would be moving on to the state meet. The school that made first place was Fort Atkinson. Our school made 4th place. So we wouldn't be moving on to the state meet. But we were still proud of ourselves and went out for lunch. As we were arrived at Culver's we learned that there was a possible gas leak, so we would have to wait a while, so instead we went to the Culver's in Edgerton. And finally came back to school at about 1:30 p.m.

Movie Review: Despicable Me 3
I enjoyed this film. The storyline was great, the characters were funny and well animated, and I think it was a good way to end the series. The movie isn't as emotional and heartwarming as the other films in the franchise, but it did a good job staying on topic and not focusing too much on the humor.
Some of the music they put into the movie is used from the other films and some of the music is fresh and new, but I didn't bother me too much.
The acting is great! Everyone put their best effort into their role and I really thought the villain was a good fit for the movie because he expressed 80's nostalgia and he was really funny!
Despicable me 3 isn't good, but it's not bad. It's in the middle. It could've been a little more heartwarming and emotional. Plus, it should've been a little less humorous to get to the point of this movie. The music shouldn't have been used from the other 2 movies. It should've been more creative, but the acting was great. The storyline was good, the animation was good, the action was good (could've added a little more), and the humor was great. But the music, the feel, and the overuse of humor did bother me a little bit (I change my mind about the music, it did bother me). So, I am going to give Despicable me 3 an... A.
To the people who are reading my review, Go check this movie out, it's on Netflix, it's at the Janesville library, and it's at Family video.
