Green Team Valentine's Container Contest

Green Team is going to have our Valentine’s Day container contest again this year. Students are encouraged to create a container that can hold their Valentine cards/treats. The creativity of the students last year was outstanding and so much fun to see. Students can create something as simple as using a reused Wal-Mart sack to something as elaborate as they would like. We only ask that students use items from home that would have been tossed in the trash. This is a great opportunity for you to talk about recycling in your morning meeting. If students choose to participate they will need to have them ready by February 10th. If students do not want to participate they do not have to. This is completely optional.

We are asking that students vote for their class favorite and the winners of each class needs to be placed in the hall on the lockers. If you have all of the student containers in the hall, please make sure there is a sign of some sort letting us know who the winner is for the class. The Green Team will come around on the 10th afterschool and will pick a winner for each grade level.

All winners will be announced on Thursday (11th) and Green Team/Yearbook will come by each class and will take a picture.

Students have their log in and school code in their SPUR folder so they may access this awesome program at home. It can be accessed through any device that has wifi. As part of your child's math homework each week, we are requiring at least 60 minutes a week. It is a great tool to close any gaps your students may have and push them to the next level in their learning. The program has great videos for reviewing difficult concepts in math, reading, and writing. If your student is having trouble with technology or the Stride program please jot us a quick email or note.

Let's continue to LEAD THE WAY by getting as many STRIDE minutes as we can!

Language Arts and Social Studies

Language Arts: Students will explore literature and generate a list of topics. We will use these to create theme sentences about the author’s message. Students will find text evidence to support the author’s message. In writing, we will continue to develop our writing craft by drafting an expository piece on how some people choose to face situations with courage. This piece is inspired by the documents from our Alamo DBQ study. Students will revise and edit the piece with truisms, quotes from the documents and figurative language.

Website Resources: Fantastic Grammar practice

Social Studies: This week we will reexamine our historical documents from the Battle of the Alamo. Students will create main idea statements for each document. Their main idea statements will then be used to compose a summary of these ancient documents.
