Parkland Weekly Update
March 19, PHS Spring Parent Forum, 7-9 PM. Parkland High School parents may choose to attend two 50-minute sessions that will be offered this evening. The three choices are “Everything you Need to Know About Senior Year that Your Child Forgot to Tell You,” “Career Cruising and Exploring Colleges,” and “College Visits, The College Interview, & the SAT.”
March 20, Parkland Community Advisory Council Meeting on “Technology and Blended Learning,” Administration Center, 7 PM. The public is invited to attend.
March 21, Parkway Manor PTO Bingo/Basket Auction Night, 6 PM
March 21, Jaindl Family Movie Night, 6 PM.
March 21, 7th Annual Orefield Community Service Night, 6 PM. OMS families will enjoy Family Bingo and 40 homeroom raffle baskets. Proceeds will support the OMS Helping Hands Fund.
March 21, Springhouse Game Night, 6 PM. Students will enjoy playing fun games to earn raffle tickets and possibly WIN A PRIZE! This year’s GRAND PRIZE is a 16GB iPad mini.
March 22, PHS Spring Semi-Formal Dance, PHS Cafeteria, 7:30 PM.
March 24 – PSSA testing begins with Math and Reading Assessments in Grades 3-8.
March 30, PHS Music Boosters Basket Bingo, PHS Cafeteria, Doors open 11:30 AM. $20 for 20 games, basket auction and door prizes. Bingo starts at 1 PM.
April 9, WELLEMENTARY Session #4 (Final Session) OLYMPIAN WISDOM. Springhouse Middle School cafeteria, 6:30 PM. This program is the last of a series of FREE programs for elementary families entitled WELLEMENTARY. The purpose of WELLEMENTARY is to educate families on how to develop healthy lifestyle habits. Each program includes health tips, instructions for making healthy food and healthy food choices and fun physical activities that can be done as a family. At this session, families will get advice on growing a garden and hear from Olympic Gold Medal Cyclist Marty Nothstein and a bike and helmets will be raffled off as prizes. Parkland Wrestling finished in 4th place at the state tournament in Hershey.
Parkland was just 1 point out of third and 3 points out of second in a closely contested state tournament. All five Parkland wrestlers placed in the top 8 in the state in their respective weight class. Nezar Haddad finished 2nd (silver medalist), Ethan Lizak finished 4th, Jacob Lizak finished 5th, Josh Ortman finished 6th, and Omar Haddad finished 7th. Ethan Lizak, Josh Ortman, and Nezar Haddad will represent District XI in the Lions Classic (District XI VS NJ) on Friday at 7 PM at Easton High School. Ethan Lizak will represent PA in the Dapper Dan Classic (PA VS United States) on Sunday at 6 PM at Pittsburgh Field House.
Parkland Girls’ Swim team finished 6th at States. Siena Salvaggio, a sophomore swimmer, placed 2nd in the state in both the 200 and 100 Freestyle races this past week at PIAA's. Not only did she earn state runner up, but she also helped her two relays final at states, making her one of a select few to medal in every event swam at states this year. She was the youngest in the field and the only 10th grader to make it to the final 200 free (an event with about 5 seniors in it this year) and the second youngest in the 100 free.
The Parkand High School Chess team went 67-2-1 placing 1st in the LVIAC (Lehigh Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference) and placed 4th at the PA State Chess Championships this week.
