Principal's Message
Dear MCES Families,
I am happy to announce that our school received the 2017 Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Award today in Orlando, Florida. I am so proud of our faculty and students for their hard work throughout this process. Several of our teachers were able to attend the Blue Ribbon conference this week and learn some exciting new strategies that can be brought back to MCES.
It was encouraging to hear so many schools talking about the importance of building relationships with students. I am proud of the strong relationships that have been built with the students and families at MCES through programs like the 21st Century GCLC, athletics, and Tiger Paw and Scholar of the Week recognition programs. As we approach 2018, I look forward to seeing how these Blue Ribbon strategies continue to improve our school!
Please remember that STAR testing will be occurring next week. These results will be analyzed by our teachers in January as we prepare for the second half of the school year.
We hope that you all will come out and support our students as they perform "A Night Before Christmas" on Tuesday, December 5th @ 6:00pm.
All students will be performing in this concert. Mark your calendars and invite all the family! Our students have been working very hard preparing for their concert.
Thanks,
Amy Mason
Principal
MESSAGE FROM PTA
We have also included a link to Superintendent Matt Massey's presentation from the Community Advisory Group/Parent Leaders meeting. The presentation outlines the funding for Madison County Schools. As some of you may be aware, some of our funding is about to expire. We need to vote YES for all three renewals on December 12 to continue our current level of property taxes, so that we can continue to fund our schools at the current level. I have also included a link to a sample ballot below and have attached an info sheet.

Speak Up Survey
Parents, it's time for our yearly participation in the Speak Up technology survey.
Speak Up is a national research project facilitated by Project Tomorrow. It provides an easy way for students, parents, and educators to share their views on technology and learning withMadison County Schools.
The data from this survey drives the direction of our local and district technology plans. Your input informs our decisions about technology, as well as contribute to the state and national dialogue about educational technology.

Inclement Weather Information
It is the parent’s responsibility to stay informed during turbulent weather seasons.
When inclement weather necessitates the closing of schools, please listen to local radio and TV stations for announcements made by the Superintendent of Education. Schools generally receive closing information at the same time as the news media and follow System policy for early dismissal or late opening. Automated calls will announce closing & emergency information as time allows.
· Please refrain from calling the school regarding early closings, etc.
· School phone lines must remain open in the event of an emergency.
· Buses will take bus riders home when it is safe.
o Make sure you have a plan in case you are not at home for early release.
· Parents are requested not to check students out during early weather closings. Please follow normal afternoon transportation if possible.
· Emergency procedures approved by Emergency Management Agency will be implemented.

Highlights from the MCES Student Handbook
** In general, a note must be brought to the school within 3 days of an absence. Only 8 days may be excused by parent notes. Additional notes must be from a physician. If a note is not received within 3 days of the absence, the absence will be coded unexcused.
** School hours are 7:45 - 2:30. Students should be in the classroom, seated by 7:45. The warning bell rings at 7:43 and the tardy bell at 7:45. If students are tardy to school, parent or guardian will need to escort their child to the front desk for a tardy slip.
