Kentuckys state history
The name Kentucky is a word from an Iroquois indian name meaning ''meadow lands''. Kentucky is still known as the "bluegrass state".
It became the 15th state June 1st 1792. Back then Kentucky was mostly farmers. They grow corn and hemp and tobacco. With left over crops they made whiskey. Kentucky has always been famous for horse racing. The Kentucky derby is the most famous horse race in the world. This race started in 1875 and continues today.
