Art Gallery Opening - Saturday, December 2nd
Throughout the year, the ShowMeKCSchools office hosts artwork from area schools in their art gallery space. Artwork representing every grade level of Citizens students will be showcased during the months of December and January, and you are invited to join us for an art gallery opening this Saturday, December 2nd from 5-7 pm! Stop by to enjoy our students' work, snacks, and perhaps even an adult drink on behalf of the ShowMeKCSchools staff. Please note that this event takes place at the ShowMeKCSchools office, located at 2201 Lexington Ave, Kansas City, 64124. This week Ms. Clark will be reaching out to the families of the students whose work will be showcased, but everyone is invited and encouraged to attend!
Second Semester Club Proposals
Winter clubs will begin in late January. Parents, caregivers, and other community members are invited to make a proposal to sponsor a club. Clubs are a fun way to deepen your involvement in the community by sharing a hobby or passion with a group of just 10-16 students while earning a bit of extra money, as club sponsors get paid $600 at the end of the 10-week session.
All club proposals are welcome. There has been a lot of interest expressed for sports, art, martial arts, chess, cooking, and language classes, so individuals with those specific skills are especially encouraged to participate. In order to propose a club, please fill out this Google form as soon as possible.
Sign up for text message notifications
As we get into the winter season, please make sure you are receiving text messages from Citizens so that you don't miss any inclement weather notifications. Messages from CWC are typically sent out via Infinite Campus as emails, Parent Portal inbox messages, and text messages. You can check and adjust your notifications by logging into your Parent Portal and clicking on the person icon in the top right corner. From here, click on “Settings” and then “Contact Preferences”. You can now check the boxes for both email and phone options. Please reach out if you have any issues updating your settings.
Inclement Weather Policy
As stated in the Family Handbook, our inclement weather policy is:
When deciding to close school for inclement weather, CWC Kansas City will generally follow the lead of the Kansas City Public School District. However, CWC Kansas City reserves the right to still make our own decision.
When KCPS announces their decision, CWC Kansas City will announce and communicate our
decision as well. We will post on our website and Facebook page, report to ABC-CBS-NBC, and send email/texts to our staff and parents. We will use the most updated contact list, please ensure the school always has the correct email/phone number(s) on file.
Generally speaking, we will wait for the decision from KCPS before making a decision for CWC.
● If KCPS is closed and we follow suit, we will communicate as soon as we are aware of their
decision and confirm our own.
● If KCPS is closed and we will still stay open, we will communicate as soon as we are aware of their decision and confirm our own.
● If KCPS is on a delayed start schedule, we will communicate our open/close status as soon as we are aware of their decision and confirm our own.
● If KCPS is either open, or is very late to announce a closure, we may still decide to close
regardless, and we will communicate that decision as soon as we have made it.
These decisions are generally made outside of normal school hours; therefore, please do not call, email, or message the school or specific employees and expect an immediate response – we will communicate a decision utilizing all of the above methods as soon as the decision is made.
