Parent Council Update - Winter 2018
Loughborough Public School Parent Council
New playground structures a great success!
Thanks to incredible school and community support, our new accessible playground climber in the primary yard area has been paid in full, and was installed last fall.
Over a period of just over two months, individual, family, service organizations and businesses rallied together to help us raise $44,000 for the purchase and installation of the new climber. Your support of hot lunch and Family Fun Night during the 2016-2017 school year allowed Parent Council to donate $13,000 of the $44,000 right off the top. Additional fundraising activities such as the Fun Run (Christina Marshall & Janza Gianrosso), Little Caesars's pizza kits (Madame Kay), and a paint nite (Kobie Franks) helped bolster the bottom line, too.
Special thanks to Adam Heska of Heska Construction for donating his time and services to complete all of the site preparation work. We will more formally recognize all of our donors at our upcoming Family Fun Night.
Given our fundraising success, we have a surplus of about $7,000. This, coupled with additional funds from our regular fundraising activities, will allow us to investigate a second phase to replace the monkey bar structure that was removed last summer. We are looking at resurfacing and expanding the basketball court area located in the intermediate yard into a multi-purpose pad. Stay tuned for more details!
Parent Council wants to give a BIG shout out to Jeff Peck and Christina Marshall for leading the fundraising drive to help fund the new climber. We appreciate your time and dedication to this project!
Next hot lunch orders due later this spring
The price per lunch is $3.75 for spaghetti and meatballs, chicken caesar wraps and chicken fried rice prepared by students at Sydenham High School's culinary program. Little Caesars Cheese Pizza is $2.50 per slice. Order forms for the spring term will come home in April. Forms will also be available off the School Council section of the LPS website and posted to our Facebook page.
Your support of the hot lunch program allows Parent Council to fund different projects and programs around the school, including the recent addition of the new playground structure in the primary yard area.
Huge thanks to Christina Marshall for organizing the hot lunch program and to teachers and students for help distributing the lunches.
Volunteers needed to support Food Sharing Project
Loughborough Public School is working with the Food Sharing Project and local volunteers to ensure ALL students have access to healthy food when they need it - for a variety of reasons. All students are welcome - and encouraged - to access this food. Intermediate students are helping to distribute food but more community and parent volunteers are needed to help with food preparation. If you can help, please get in touch with Ms. Revell.
