November 5th -9th
Highlights from our week:
Shared Reading - Our focus on retelling continued with the use of the story The Three Little Pigs by James Marshall. Students practiced identifying the main characters, multiple settings, and the overarching problem and solution. Students were assessed on this concept on Friday.
Writing - This week our class spent time learning about nouns. Students began to identify common and proper nouns (dog vs. Snoopy, store vs. Walmart) and what words are and are not nouns. We will continue to practice this moving forward. Next week we will be investigating singular and plural nouns.
Social Studies - After completing the Life Cycle of a Spider, the next few weeks will focus on citizenship. Our class began identifying the traits of a citizen, citizen expectations, and symbols of the USA.
Math: The unit of study for this week began with an art project where students used precut pieces of paper to make a paper quilt square. Students also watercolored a picture of a sea start to add to the quilt. After assembling all the pieces, students practiced counting by fives using the rows of the quilt and the sea star arms. Our class did an excellent job of identifying patters and predicting numbers. You will be able to view our completed quilt during conferences! We also practiced and were assessed on the ability to represent numbers from 1 to 120.
Red Folder/Homework
Paper practice homework will continue to be sent home in the red folder and is due the next day. Thank you for your continued support of your child's learning!
