Dear Families,
Just a reminder that we will not have school this week Friday. It is the first of several Professional Learning Days that our staff engages in district and school-wide learning.
The 4K program will have a float in this year's NJSD Homecoming Parade! More information will be sent home next week. We hope we will have some parents and students join us in the parade!
We are scheduled to have Franklin Ave. paved this week Friday during our non-school day. I will send an update in next week's newsletter!

Free Dental Screenings and Flouride Application
Dental forms were sent home this summer in a mailing from district office. We will also be sending dental forms home this week with all students who show up in our system as free/reduced status.
If you HAVE NOT completed the free/reduced application and feel you may qualify for this, please contact Mrs. Calkins in the office to get another application. You will need to complete the free/reduced forms AND the dental forms in order to be eligible for the free dental screening.

Washington Playground Use and Playground Rules
- If the playground is occupied by staff and students during our school day, we ask that no other children/families enter the playground during this time.
- We have AM session from 8:20-11:00; Mid-day recess from 11:00-11:30 (Head Start); Mid-day recess on T/TH from 11:30-12:00 (Phonology); PM session from 12:05-2:45; and after school recess until 4:00 (Head Start).
- If the playground is not occupied during these times, you are more than welcome to use our fun space. However, if a class comes out while you are on the playground, please understand that you will need to leave the playground during this time.
- We ask that no food/drinks (except water) be brought onto our playground surface.
Rules for the Playground (Please assist us in keeping children safe while using the Washington Playground):
SLIDE: Encourage children to go up the stairs and down the slide. Please go down the slide in a sitting position, only.
SWINGS: Please use a sitting position on the swings. Help children learn about the "safe zone" around the swings.
CAVE: No standing on the cave. No jumping from the cave.
If you have any questions/concerns about these rules, please don't hesitate to speak with Mrs. Nelson who is happy to review the information with you.
Student Absence Procedure
- Child's name
- Child's teacher
- Reason for absence
We will record this information in our attendance system, and let your child's teacher know.
If you do not call the office, you should expect a call from us.
Please let us know if you have any specific questions!
Franklin Ave update & Parking Information
As a reminder, our parking lot is open for parents/visitors to park in. Please abide by the ONE-WAY signs to get in and out of our parking lot.
PLEASE enter and drive slowly in and out of our parking lot as well as on Franklin Ave. and Columbian Ave. while children are present.
Also, it is a MUST that you hold hands with your child(ren) while in and around the parking lot! It is a very busy place and we want everyone to be safe.
