Forced Japanese Evacuee Propaganda
by Hannah Xu
American propaganda made leaving for camp seem like a breeze, when it fact it was the exact opposite
American "Sympathy"
The Japanese are seen leaving for their internment in a train while a Caucasian woman is giving them apples for the ride. It seems as if the Americans were supportive and sympathetic of the Japanese.
vs. American Hatred
A man is raising his fist at the Japanese in the train. Instead of being supportive like the first photo, in reality many Americans were glad to see the Japanese leave. For example, in When the Emperor was Divine, people often threw rocks at the windows of the train.
Excitedly Waiting for Departure
A mother and her two sons wait for a train to arrive and take them to internment. It portrays Japanese as willing to leave their comfortable lives behind for uncomfortable camp lives.
A Mess About to Depart
A family is hurriedly packing and about to leave on the train. Leaving was a messy and stressful experience, especially on deciding what to pack and leaving most belongings behind. The family does not look excited to leave nor happy about it
