A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal
Welcome Back GRHS Longhorns,
I hope you took this Thanksgiving break as a little time to step away from the daily grind, recharge your internal batteries, and spend quality time with your own family. Time and family are the two things that you can never get back once they are gone, so allowing yourself to unplug and refill the energy tank with them is essential. We will be doing the same over the Christmas break....stepping away from the daily grind to spend more precious (and much needed) quality time with our loved ones. School will be here when we get back, I promise, and we will hit the ground running hard in the second semester! But, before that happens we must FINISH STRONG in semester one. It is imperative that you keep up with your studies and do not get behind. We only have 10 full days of learning before semester finals week begins...that is going to FLY BY! So buckle down and and go full steam ahead so your grades will reflect a STRONG FINISH!
4TH SIX WEEKS LEARNING MODALITY DEADLINE DECEMBER 4th! (HARD DEADLINE)
It's time to choose your learning modality for the 4th six weeks IN SKYWARD...deadline is December 4th, don't miss it, because there is NO WIGGLE ROOM since we are having to adjust the master schedule again to accommodate all our Longhorns coming back! We have 1800 here right now, and I anticipate even more next six weeks. Log in to Skyward today ONLY IF YOU ARE CHANGING to a different modality from the 3rd six weeks. If you are staying the same, there is NOTHING you need to do at this time.
With approximately 1800 students and 200 staff members daily in the building, it is more important than ever to continue following the protocols -proper wearing of masks (nose and mouth covered), cleaning of personal space upon entering each classroom (wipes and hand sanitizer provided in every classroom), and following all the safety protocols and procedures that we have in place. These are the same ones that I personally review every day on the announcements. Let's keep being smart and stay safe by adhering to the face to face expectations by properly wearing those masks, sanitizing regularly, and following social distancing protocols to the best of our ability. Any student refusing to follow the rules will be given disciplinary consequences, which will in turn affect their semester exam exemptions. Let's all do our part to keep GR the PLACE to be... especially face to face.

Secondary Learning Model Change – Deadline Dec. 4
The Learning Model Change Form for SECONDARY students for the fourth six weeks is available in Skyward Family Access. The deadline for requesting a change in learning model for the fourth six weeks is Friday, Dec. 4. No changes in learning model will be accepted after Dec. 4, as the District must plan for master schedules, classroom space, virtual instruction and how to best meet the needs of our students.
Parents who would like to change their student’s learning model can use these instructions to access and submit the form in Skyward. If there is no change for your student, you do not need to submit the form.
It is also important to note:
- It is our intent to minimize classroom shifts as much as possible, however, the need to balance class sizes and schedules with two different instructional models will likely require some students to have a different teacher for the fourth grading period, even if they haven’t changed learning models.
- Campuses will contact families with students transitioning from virtual to on-campus instruction to communicate safety protocols and ensure a safe return to campus.
- All campuses will contact parents about next steps after the Dec. 4 deadline.
Overview of On-Campus Instruction:
- All parents are expected to screen students for COVID-19 symptoms each day prior to sending them to school.
- While the COVID-19 Risk Level is red, orange or yellow, face coverings are required for all students when in common spaces, hallways, on buses and during arrival and dismissal. Students in grades 4th-12th are also required to wear face coverings in the classroom.
- While in the classroom, students will be socially distanced as much as instructionally possible.
Overview of Virtual Instruction:
- Virtual instruction will require students to participate in asynchronous (online without real-time interaction) and synchronous (real-time) online learning.
- Each day, students will engage in daily lessons, activities and assignments in all classes to be marked present.
- Each virtual student will likely need their own device and access to high-speed internet at home.
If you have questions regarding the Learning Model Change form, please contact your child’s campus.

Check out our Lariette Sweetheart and Beau Dance!
A strong tradition since GR opened is our Lariette Sweetheart and Beau Dance, formerly the Lariette Father/Daughter Dance. We worked hard to make sure Covid did not derail our plans. It may look different, but we found a way to honor this tradition while remaining socially distant! This performance is an important part of our program as the girls get an opportunity to work strongly with their dads or the male role models who have a big impact on their life. If you missed it at the game, or you just want to be entertained again, take a moment to view our 2020 Sweetheart and Beau dance! Click here to view this outstanding performance!
