Greetings Falcon Nation,

As we get ready for Thanksgiving Break, I want to express my gratitude for our school community. I am thankful for all of our teachers, staff, students, and parents that make our school one of the best schools in Austin! We could not do what we do with out you. A special thank you goes out to our Lively PTSA and Lively families that provided all of the delicious food yesterday for our annual Thanksgiving Day Luncheon.

The weather is chilly and coats that have been donated to our Falcon Showroom are gone! If you are able to donate new or gently used coats and jackets for our community, we would greatly appreciate it. Please bring all donations to the front office.

Evening of Wonder

Mark your calendars to attend or help with this year’s Evening of Wonder on December 6, 2022 from 5:30-7:30 pm. The Evening of Wonder is Lively’s annual showcase where prospective families can learn about all of our incredible programs, classes, and activities as well as meet the fabulous students, staff, and families that make our community so special.

We need your help to represent the Lively community and support our teachers as they promote their classes. We are seeking parent and student volunteers to help us setup the lights, and support during the event. Complete this Parent and Student Volunteer form if you are interested in supporting the Evening of Wonder. Let’s use the Evening of Wonder as an opportunity to connect as a community and celebrate all of the great things happening in our school.

MAP Growth

MAP Growth testing will take place the weeks of November 28- December 9th. This assessment will measure students’ growth in Math and Reading from the beginning of the year. All testing will take place in students’ regularly scheduled ELAR and Math classes. Please reach out to your child’s Math or ELAR teacher if you have more questions.

HSR opt-in forms

Human Sexuality and Responsibility (HSR) curriculum will be taught this fall during your child’s science and HS credit health class. The 9 lessons in grade 6 cover developmentally and age-appropriate information related to relationships, abuse and trafficking, puberty and adolescent development, reproductive systems, abstinence, pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, and boundaries and consent. This curriculum has been established to provide information and skill development for students so that they may reach their highest potential for physical, emotional, mental and social health. If you haven’t done so already, we invite you to preview the curriculum online at https://www.austinisd.org/pe-health/health-education/hsr (under the K-HS Lessons button).

As the primary educator in your child’s life, AISD believes that you are the most important source of information regarding human sexuality. The HSR curriculum is intended to support what students are learning at home, respecting your individual family values and teaching students to respect the family values of others that may differ from their own.

HSR lessons are taught in all grade level science classes and HS credit Health. If you would like your child to participate in HSR lessons you must complete the HSR opt-in form. Students that do not turn in the opt-in form will be provided with alternate lessons. You are not required to opt-in unless you want your child to participate in the lessons. Opt-in forms are due on Dec 1st. The HSR curriculum will be taught from Dec 7 to Dec 16th. For questions regarding the curriculum, please contact your child’s science or health teacher.

SEL Advisory

We will have a lot happening in Advisory when students return from the Fall break! Students will participate in small group team building games and knockout basketball competitions. We are also busy prepping for our Pep rally to celebrate basketball season. AVID students have prepared and will lead a high school and college fair during advisories. We are excited to have fun and enriching opportunities as we finish out the Fall semester.

Falcon Flex

Maria Nieto is one of our new custodians. Simply put: she is amazing. She has an amazing work ethic and takes it upon herself to ensure that our school is clean and ready for our kiddos. She also volunteers on Saturdays to help our teachers and PTA. We salute you, and we appreciate you so, so much!

COUNSELOR CORNER

The ART of Being Present

There are many ways to bring mindfulness into your daily life, even when you don’t have a chance to sit down in a quiet place. We call this the “ART” of being present.

Activities. Bring mindfulness into the activities you love to do, such as gardening, exercising, baking, etc.

Routines. Choose one of your daily routines and bring mindfulness to it: folding clothes, washing dishes, vacuuming, walking to work, eating lunch.

Triggers. We all have things that set us off: snarky emails, annoying humans, mindless drivers. Choose one and decide to replace your angry reaction with the flash of being present.

The following resource comes from mindful.org.
