News From the Office

Meet One of Our New Staff Members...

I am Melissa Anderson, the medical assistant at Spencer. My husband, Mark and I and our 3 kids, Luke, Hannah and Grace live here in Brighton. We love hockey, 2 out of my 3 kids play and we enjoy spending time at our cabin in the UP. In my spare time, I like to read and spend time with family and friends. I have been in the medical field for over 20 year and have cared for a wide range of people. I am excited to be in this new role in the school. I will be splitting my time between Spencer and Hilton. I am committed to helping your kids if they need any medical care.

Holiday Adopt-A-Family

Could your family use some assistance for the holidays? If so, please let us know. We have our Adopt-a-Family program to help provide some ease this coming holiday season for you and your family. We would love to spread some Spencer joy from our community this holiday season. Please respond to this form by clicking the button below by Monday, October 25. We only have 20 slots, so they will be first-come, first-serve.

Change Of Clothes

UPDATE: Parents, thank you to those that are packing a change of clothes in your student's backpack each day! We no longer keep extra clothes in the clinic so this helps us SO MUCH in the office. Please make sure you pack a change of clothes in your child's backpack EVERY DAY. This is for ALL grades, you never know when your student may have a nosebleed, or lose a tooth, or spill food on their shirt, or find a mud puddle outside, or have an accident. If they have a change of clothes, then we can take care of it here, otherwise we need to call home for you to bring up a change of clothing. In addition, now that the weather is changing, make sure you pack weather appropriate clothes for the changing weather conditions. Thank you for your cooperation.

LIBRARY UPDATE

It's Digital Citizenship Month!

Hi Spencer Families! I am so proud of all of our students for engaging in discussions on how to be safe online. If you would like to continue the discussion at home, please ask them about this. They may ask you if they can play Interland. It's a brilliant online game developed by Google to help teach our students how to be good Digital Citizens. They can access this at home through our Media Center website, or the direct link is below:

https://beinternetawesome.withgoogle.com/en_us/interland

And, for more parent resources on how to help keep our children safe online, with more fun and games to engage your children in this topic, go to: https://www.commonsense.org/education/family-resources

Together we can keep our children safe online!

Box Tops Challenge

Our first Box Tops Challenge is underway until October 22. If you have any clipped Box Tops laying around, please send them to school in a ziploc bag or envelope with your child's teacher clearly marked on it to earn credit for your class. Digital receipts from the beginning of the school year through 10/22 will be counted for this challenge. Mrs. Miller's class is currently in the lead! If you have not yet signed up for a Box Tops account, use this link, and scan within the first 14 days of signing up, and we both receive 20 bonus points for our school!

MOD Pizza Night

Our first family dine out night is October 21st at MOD Pizza! You can order in-person or online between 12pm and 8pm. Please see attached flyer for more information.

Halloween Event

This year's Halloween event will be held on October 28th from 6-8pm. We will be doing a trunk or treat and outdoor games. There will also be two food trucks you can purchase dinner from, if you wish! Lego Club

A fall Lego Club will be starting November 4th and will take place on Thursday's after school through December 16th. Spencer dad Steve Johnson will be running this club and could use another parent or two to help out! If you are interested, please let me know. Spaces will be limited, and go really quickly, so keep an eye out to sign up quickly when it is posted (on our Facebook page)!

Please check out our Facebook page and/or website for the most up to date information this year.

Note From the Counselor

Counselor Corner!

Hello from your Elementary Counselor, Mrs. McKiddy! I have very much enjoyed our start to a great school year. I spent the month of September visiting classrooms for a social-emotional lesson centered around forming connections with peers and strengthening friendships. I have also increased visits with individual students needing social-emotional support. I am working hard to add some peer support groups by the end of the month! As the year progresses, I am continuing to connect with classroom teachers for referrals for students who are struggling or may need additional support. If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.

We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home! Please feel free to contact your counselor with any questions or concerns that you may have, and Mrs. Fox or Mrs. McKiddy will do their best to support your child.
