Lake Orion High School
Week #2

Welcome to Week 2!
What a great first week back! Students have been doing a really good job with following procedures and finding their classes. This week brings on another busy week for all, as we prepare for Curriculum Night this Tuesday, September 13th from 6-8pm and Girls Golf, Boys Soccer and Water Polo, Tennis, and Football all have events they are competing in.
Be sure to check the website for up and coming events and news!
Important Attendance Information
Given all of the challenges that we’ve experienced during the last few years, we would like to reaffirm the importance of students attending school and demonstrating good attendance habits. Research has shown that missing 2 days a month over the course of a school year is directly correlated with reduced academic performance. Attendance is also one of the few predictors of achievement on standardized tests and college entrance examinations.
At Lake Orion High School, we are committed to making attendance a priority and we greatly appreciate parents’ support. Of course, when students are experiencing illness or health issues they are expected to stay home. Likewise, sometimes it is difficult to schedule dental and medical appointments that do not conflict with school. Ideally, absences are limited to those which are essential.
In the event of an unexpected student absence, teachers are proactive with providing access to lessons materials and resources. However, there truly is no substitute for the rich learning that occurs when a student attends school and is present in a classroom.
We firmly believe in a partnership between school and home to promote attendance and shape a positive perception of school.
It is going to be a great year! We sincerely appreciate your support.
