Lent: Prayer, Fast, Give
Leadership Message
Leading with JOY
If there was one theme that emerged this week was the essence of leadership within so many aspects of our St. John community. So often we imagine leaders as those in charge or the ones making the decisions. These are important elements of leading, especially in moments where we require delegation and clear communication. Leadership also emerges when those around us model integrity, humility, courage, empathy, and most importantly, service. At St. John, we strongly believe in fostering leadership attributes in our students. In order for them to become leaders, they need to see leaders.
Our students were privileged to witness so many servant leaders this week. From local restaurant owners, Eggcellent P’ Eats, who donated pancakes and fixings for our Shrove Tuesday Pancake snack (Thanks to the O’Donovan family), to the parents who contacted the restaurant, organized and delivered the pancakes. (Thanks Leslie-Anne Oshurst, Shannon Dahlseide and Sherry Charron). From Fr. Danial who led our Ash Wednesday Staff mass to our Chaplain, Mrs. Comartin, who led our Liturgy of the Word.
This month was Black History Month and thanks to our teacher leaders, our students saw diversity in leadership from so many; AfroFit, Misty Copeland (Ballet dancer), and authors like Brian Pinkney, Vashti Harrison, and Kwesi Johnson.
On February 11, the world celebrated International Day of Women and Girls in Science. On Friday, Mrs. Schaub invited St. John parent, Dr. Miranda Brun, biochemist, to virtually come and share with our grade fours. If you can see it, you can be it.
Finally, our very own student leaders served with JOY this week! We have four grade four servant leadership squads: Faith, Healthy Living, School Spirit, and Young Citizens. When we begin our leadership journey with our grade fours in September, we connect them to leading like our greatest leader, Jesus, who showed us that true leadership is service to others. Our Faith team helped myself and Mrs. Comartin lead our Ash Wednesday celebration and ensured that every student received a Prayer Pal for Lent. Every class was “School Spirited” this week by members of our School Spirit team. Our Young Citizens took the community initiative of 'Naming the Snowplows' and ensured that our students participated in this. This month is Heart Healthy month and every morning our Healthy Living Team shares announcements with Heart Healthy tips.
We are so blessed that our St. John students are surrounded by so many servant leaders in our community who continue to serve with JOY, humility, passion and love.
Blessings,
Mrs. Bonnie-Lynne Boehm, Principal
Servant Leadership: Leading with JOY!
Thank you St. John parent, Dr. Miranda Brun, biochemist, for speaking to our grade 4s on International Day of Women in Science
Every student and staff has received a special Prayer Pal to pray for during Lent, ask your child who they received. Please encourage them to include this "pal" in their prayers at home.
This Wednesday is Pink Shirt Day! Sport your Pink and Show your Kindness!
The Pink Shirts ordered from Staples have been delayed. The shirts have arrived but unfortunately, do not have the original logo on the front that we had ordered. The Staples representatives are correcting this error and have picked up the shirts to apply the chosen logo to the back of the shirt. The shirts will have the same, “Be Kind Always,” logo as the previous year on the front and the new logo designed by the Indigenous Artist, Jeremiah Peters, on the back. Our school will now have a very "special edition".
The shirts will arrive Monday at 2:00 pm and our amazing Mrs. Potter (and anyone else available) will send the shirts home tomorrow. Tuesday/Thursday Kinders-if you would like the t-shirt before Tuesday, please contact Mrs. Potter. Thank you for your understanding.
Thank you Eggcellent P'Eats & School Council for our Shrove Tuesday Pancakes!
