CHS Campus Specific Safety Protocols

CHS Campus Safety Plan

This is the final week to elect face-to-face or virtual instruction; when making this important decision it's critical to know how Coronado High School will work to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of all students, staff, and the community. Please see below for specific guidelines as they relate to COVID-19 safety measures being enacted for the 2020-2021 school year.

Personal Protective Equipment

  • Each student will receive 1 reusable cloth face mask, but may elect to wear a mask of their own
  • CHS will provide adult size disposable masks for students as a back up
  • Hand sanitizing stations throughout the building
  • Hand sanitizer in each classroom

Face masks

  • Face masks are required to enter the building
  • Face masks will be worn at all times inside the building when social distancing is less than 6 feet
  • Refusal to wear a face mask by a student will be addressed like ID badges; the student will be given an opportunity to self correct
  • If the student refuses to put on the face mask or keep it on administration will contact the student's parent/guardian
  • If the student continues to refuse to comply the student will be sent home to complete the day's learning by Chromebook either synchronously or asynchronously

Arrival & Dismissal

  • CHS doors open at 7:30 AM
  • Students may enter through door 1 or 7
  • Students must have both a student ID and face mask on when entering the building
  • Monitors will be at both sets of doors to ensure compliance
  • Students may go to the cafeteria, into classrooms where a teacher is present, or into hallways where teachers are actively monitoring
  • Students will be encouraged to leave campus when the instructional day ends at 4:00 PM
  • Students must keep the face mask on while waiting to be picked up; this includes while outside if less than 6 feet apart

Passing Periods

  • Social distancing will be enforced to the extent possible when passing between classes
  • During passing periods teachers and administration will move students along and discourage stopping and congregating
  • Traffic will flow one-way in most of the building; where hallways are wide enough to accommodate two-way traffic students will stay on the right side of the hall as they walk


  • Students will be seated as far apart as possible depending on room configuration, size, and type of seating - either desks or tables
  • Students will be seated facing forward
  • Students will have assigned seating in all classes and seating charts will be updated and provided to campus administration
  • Masks will remain on; the teacher may remove the face mask to give direct instruction as long as 6 feet from all students
  • Students will not leave the classroom unless it's an emergency or a pass has been sent for them to leave the classroom
  • At the conclusion of every class period the teacher will spray disinfectant on the desk/table top, seat, and any other area the student may have worked; the student will then use 2 paper towels to wipe down the area and put the paper towel in the trash can on the way out the door


  • During passing periods teachers will help administrators monitor bathroom entry and exit
  • The number of students allowed into individual restrooms will directly correlate to the number of available stalls in the restroom
  • Students will not be allowed to congregate in restrooms
  • Sodexo, the LISD Cleaning Company, will sanitize and wipe down restrooms throughout the day and deep clean when the instructional day ends

Breakfast & Lunch

  • During both breakfast & lunch the cafeteria will be set up to only allow for 50% capacity
  • Tables will be spaced 6 feet apart
  • A reduced number of chairs will be at each table inside the cafeteria
  • New and expanded seating is available in the outside courtyard
  • When entering the cafeteria students must keep face masks on, even when moving through the serving lines
  • Students will have their student ID badge scanned instead of keying in their ID number; this minimizes touch points
  • Aramark is individually packaging food items so students may "grab-and-go" to minimize touch points
  • Students may only take the face mask off when eating and then put the face mask back on when finished
  • CHS has a new bell schedule which allows for 3 lunches thus dividing the total student population into thirds; the new bell schedule also allows for a minimum of 24 minutes in between each lunch to wipe down and sanitize all surfaces & touch points


The information presented above is to help our Mustang community make an informed decision regarding face-to-face instruction as we near the start of the 2020-21 school year. As you can see CHS has an extension safety plan in place to open our doors on August 17 and we will continue to investigate ways to further increase our safety measures.

If you have not already completed the online registration for the upcoming school year please click the bar above to do so. Remember, the deadline to select virtual learning is August 3, 2020; after August 3 all students will attend face-to-face.
