The London Times
Our Weekly Class Newsletter February 8-12
Weekly Note from Mrs. London
We had a fun week--complete with a day of snow flurries! Check out our picture below (we got to go outside for a few minutes and play in it!) This week we were also able to take part in helping to develop a Google Expedition using google cardboard, an Iphone, and a Google App. The second graders visually visited several biomes that we will be studying about next trimester: desert, tundra, tropical rainforest, savannah, and more! It was a very cool experience where the kids were immersed in the lesson and felt like they were actually in each of those habitats walking around! Ask them more about it!
I hope you all enjoy the long weekend!
Best,
Melissa

What Did We Learn This Week?
Language Arts
We had a great time interviewing a Davis staff member this week. This week (and next) we are typing the interview into a paragraph. The students get to choose a font, size, and color and are learning great computer skills in Microsoft Word! In grammar, we learned about making subjects and verbs agree. We began to fill in an outline about our present life in 2nd grade for our autobiographies! Also, we enjoyed making biography dolls as one of our centers this week!
Math
Science
We had fun learning all about simple machines these past two weeks. This week, we focused on the screw, wedge, and pulley. We watched interesting and educational videos about each type of simple machine. We will have a test within the next couple of weeks. Also, we are looking forward to an in school field trip by High Touch/High Tech where we get to build simple machines!!
Hebrew
Dear 2nd grade parents,
In Hebrew class, this past week, we took a deep breath and reviewed all the letters we have learned so far:
א, ו, י, נ, ן, ג, ה, ר, ב, ס, ש, ח, ק, ד, כ, ך, ז, מ, ם, ל
We practiced all the Hebrew cursive letters we know, using smart board activities and work sheets. We even took a Hebrew spelling test.
Here is a great activity to review Hebrew at home:
