Dear Parents and Students,
It is already February! We have a busy month ahead.
This week’s spelling words have the long o sound, spelled o, oa and ow. Study words daily. Word Test and Dictation will be Friday.
Read each day at home, at least 10-20 minutes.
The story of the week from the Journeys reader is “Helen Keller.” We will learn about her inspiring life and accomplishments.
We are reading different biographies to learn about the lives of well-known people. The children will choose one person to read more about, research and report on. Projects will be shared at Open House in March.
We are beginning to subtract 2-digit numbers with and without regrouping.

What a great turnout for our awards! Thanks for coming!
Spelling words this week have the long o sound, spelled oa and ow, or the long e sound spelled ee and ea. Study words daily. Word Test and Dictation will be Friday.
The story of the week from the Journeys reader is “Ben and Now.” We will learn about Benjamin Franklin and many of the amazing things he did in his life. We will compare and contrast how things are alike and different, comparing his time of living to our modern day of living.
Read each day at home, at least 10-20 minutes.

Updated Week of 1-11-16
Dear Parents and Students,
Spelling words this week have the long i sound. If the long i sound is at the end of the word, it is spelled with y, like in fry. Some of the words have –igh for the long i sound, like in high and night. Other words have i followed by a consonant blend, as in kind and wild. Study your words each day at home. Word Test and Dictation will be this Friday.
The story of the week from the Journeys reader is "Luke Goes to Bat." We will practice sequence of events.
Remember to read daily at home, at least 10-20 minutes.
In math, the students will be adding two-digit numbers, with and without regrouping.
In science we will be studying rocks. We will observe, describe, and compare physical characteristics.
In social studies, we will continue with map skills.
This Friday, Jan. 15th is Early Dismissal at 12:30. It is also the end of the fall semester.
On Jan. 22nd, report cards will be available online.
Feb. 22nd is the due date for 6-Flags Read to Succeed forms.

Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome back to school for a Happy New Year 2016! Today we are also happy to welcome a new student and friend to our class. Now you are a Parkway Panther, Daniel! :)
This week, I will be testing the students on the "Words Their Way" mid-year spelling test, so there is no spelling list to study at home.
The story of the week from the Journeys reader is "Penguin Chick." We will reading to find main idea and details in non-fiction selections.
Science vocabulary includes: force and motion, push, pull, slide, zig-zag
In math, the students will be using the hundreds chart to add 2-digit numbers.
In Social Studies, we will be practicing map skills.
Green sheets showing holiday reading are due tomorrow, 1-6-16.

Dear Parents,
Thank you so much for coming to our class play yesterday! We had such a great group of parents and loved ones. I am pleased that the students did their very best performance for you!
Notes for the Week:
We return to the "Penguin Patch Holiday Shop" on Wednesday, so be sure and send money if you wish for your child to purchase gifts for others.
Our Holiday Party is Thursday, December 17th, from 1:40-2:30.
"Cozy Up With a Book/PJ Day" is Friday, December 18th. Wear your jammies, and bring some favorite books from home to read at school.
Friday is Early Release at 12:30.
January 4, 2016 is Staff Development for teachers and no school for students.
Students return to school on Tuesday, January 5, 2016.
February 22nd is the due date for "6-Flags Read to Succeed" forms.

Week of 12-7-15
Dear Parents,
Our class play is one week from today on Monday, December 14th, at 10:00 a.m. on the dot. The children are excited to perform for parents! It will last about 20 minutes and will be held in our classroom. I hope you can make plans to attend!
Please send in any oven mitts, aprons, wooden spoons and plastic bowls for our play, if you don't mind us using them until the 15th.
This week we are doing an author study of Jan Brett. We will read many of her books. Our skills include sequencing, character traits, fact-finding and comprehension.
In math the students will be comparing and ordering numbers to 1,200.
Spelling words have long vowel sounds of a and i. All the words are spelled with the vowel-consonant-silent e pattern.

Week of 11-30-15
Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving break!
Today we enjoyed having our first WATCH DOG Dad, Mr. Pagenkopf, dad to Aaron. Thanks to Mr. Pagenkopf for giving his day to us at Parkway! The children enjoyed reading with him and playing games with him during indoor recess.
Homework: Please have your child read every day at home and study spelling words. Istation, Fasttmath and Mathletics are also great ways to practice skills.
December 1st – Please send in 1 yard of 100% cotton fabric in a holiday print & send a wire coat hanger. The children will begin making a special holiday gift for family.
This week is “Career Week” at Parkway.
Tuesday – Wear sunglasses because your future is so BRIGHT!
Wednesday – Wear college baseball caps because you are a winner!
Thursday – Wear college shirt or Parkway shirt. You are college-bound!
Friday – Dress for Success for your dream job! Think about the career or job you would enjoy. Dress up like that worker this Friday.
December 14th at 10:00 a.m. ~ We will perform “The Gingerbread Kid Caper” in the classroom for parents and loved ones. Please mark your calendar.
