Mid Year Check In

We hope that the holidays were filled with fun, family, and time to relax. At EMS we are back into the swing of things. First, we have the conclusion our 2nd marking period, preparing our 8th graders for the high school scheduling process, and preparing for some exciting activities.

High School Scheduling

Hopefully, some of you attended 8th Grade Parent Night at Roxbury High School. It was an eventful evening with lots of information to digest. All of 8th graders were given a program of studies to provide information on classes. Thursday, February, 23 guidance counselors from Roxbury High School will visit EMS to help students with the scheduling process. Below is a link to the Roxbury High Schol Guidance webpage. You can take a look at the digital version of the Program of Studies.

PARCC Testing

EMS will administer the PARCC assessment March 28-30. A modified schedule will be created and more information will be provided as we get closer to testing time.

ALICE

Recently our district has adopted a new manner in which we conduct and train for emergency drills. Most notably, our procedures for a lockdown have changed drastically. From now on, we will utilize ALICE when we do our practice drills. ALICE is an acronym for

A-Alert

L-Lockdown

I-Inform

C-Counter

E-Evacuate

This is a more proactive way to prepare for and deal with potential violent intruders. We will provide students with training and information prior to practicing certain drills. In December, we did the lock down portion of ALICE. Below are pictures of barricades students and teachers created in order to ensure greater protection from a violent intruder.

PTO Reminders

Please remember to support our PTO. Everyone is welcome to attend our monthly PTO meetings. Our next meeting is Tuesday, February 7. We meet in our room called the LOI, at 7:30 pm. For future dates check out the EMS PTO website.

Also, it is never to late to sign up for Shoparoo. Shoparoo turns your receipts into cash for our school.

**Potential School Closing Days**

Presidents Day could turn into an extra long weekend. If we use 0 snow days prior to February 16, schools will be closed Tuesday, February 21.

We may have the luck of the Irish in March. If we avoid inclement weather through March, schools will be closed Friday, March 17 through Monday, March 20.

Kids Stuff!!!

The first video is our daily announcements from December, 16. After 1 minute of announcements, check out our 8th grade Health Mannequin Challenge.

Lia Milsom, Nia Mullengada, Christina Horton and Ava Pilkington created the 2nd video below. The video is a PSA on the danger of our Digital Footprint. The PSA was a project for Digital Citizenship. The ladies did a great job. We hope you enjoy.
