Letter From The Principal
1/April/2021
Dear Families,
Good afternoon Roadrunners!
I hope everyone enjoys this three day weekend. Remember that Friday, April 2 is a student/staff holiday. There will be no classes on this day.
As a reminder, our School Board policy mandates that schools continue to follow the Covid procedures and protocols developed at the beginning of the school year. This means that masks are required at all times while on school grounds.
Monday, April 5 is the beginning of the last nine weeks of the school year. If you didn't make a change from virtual to in-person, and you want your child in school, please email one of the administrators, Elsa Ibarra, Juan Cardenas, or Yvette Soliz.
The first STAAR test of the year is scheduled on April 6 for 4th grade writing. We will be sending more information soon.
Please look below for information on FEMA helping to pay funeral costs for Covid related deaths.
Finally, Covid guidelines will continue until the end of the school year.
Remember to take your child's temperature. Keep your child home if they are sick. If anyone at home has tested Covid positive, your child must quarantine. They cannot come to school, even if they are not sick. Call Nurse Scott if you have questions or concerns about your child's illness. If you are not sure if you should send your child to school or keep them home, Nurse Scott can help.
Have a terrific week!
If you have any questions or concerns, please email or call at yvette.soliz@hayscisd.net, or (512) 268-8505.
Sincerely,
Yvette Soliz, Principal
Tuesday, April 6, 2021: 4th Grade Writing STAAR
Tuesday, April 6, 2021 is the Writing STAAR test. Remind your 4th grade student that they are ready for this test. Tell them to try their best and use all the strategies they have been taught. Your son/daughter has set goals together with the teacher and know exactly what they need to attain them. Tell your child that the test is important because it checks their knowledge and skills as a 4th grade writer. Your child should relax. On Monday, have them go to bed early and get a good night's rest. They should eat breakfast and get to school on-time to prevent any added stress. It would be great if you could write them a short note telling them you are proud of their hard work, and that you love them.
FEMA to Help Pay Funeral Costs for COVID-19-Related Deaths
"At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters," said Acting FEMA Administrator Bob Fenton. “The COVID-19 pandemic has caused immense grief for so many people. Although we cannot change what has happened, we affirm our commitment to help with funeral and burial expenses that many families did not anticipate."
To be eligible for COVID-19 funeral assistance, the policy states:
- The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified alien who incurred funeral expenses after Jan. 20, 2020 for a death attributed to COVID-19.
- If multiple individuals contributed toward funeral expenses, they should apply under a single application as applicant and co-applicant. FEMA will also consider documentation from other individuals not listed as the applicant and co-applicant who may have incurred funeral expenses as part of the registration for the deceased individual.
- An applicant may apply for multiple deceased individuals.
- The COVID-19-related death must have occurred in the United States, including the U.S. territories and the District of Columbia.
- This assistance is limited to a maximum financial amount of $9,000 per funeral and a maximum of $35,500 per application.
- Funeral assistance is intended to assist with expenses for funeral services and interment or cremation.
In the coming weeks, a dedicated 800 number will be established to help individuals who apply. In the meantime, potential applicants are encouraged to start gathering the following documentation:
- An official death certificate that attributes the death to COVID-19 and shows that the death occurred in the United States. The death certificate must indicate the death “may have been caused by” or “was likely the result of” COVID-19 or COVID-19-like symptoms. Similar phrases that indicate a high likelihood of COVID-19 are considered sufficient attribution.
- Funeral expense documents (receipts, funeral home contract, etc.) that include the applicant’s name, the deceased individual’s name, the amount of funeral expenses and dates the funeral expenses were incurred.
- Proof of funds received from other sources specifically for use toward funeral costs. Funeral assistance may not duplicate benefits received from burial or funeral insurance, financial assistance received from voluntary agencies, federal/state/local/tribal/territorial government programs or agencies, or other sources.
