The Weekly Highlander

Next week is a busy one at Hewes! Tuesday includes 8th graders touring CTE programs at Foothill, a PTA meeting at 1 pm, a student volleyball meeting after school, and a band concert at 7 pm. We will be busy and are excited to offer so many opportunities for our students to engage with our school. Plan Family Time on Wednesday, March 8th as we will have a homework-free night. Details behind the 'why' for this evening are linked below.

Support our PTA by attending our meeting on Tuesday in the library or by joining us via Zoom. There are also many opportunities to serve on the PTA for the 2023-24 school year, contact Jessica Howell at jessicahowell@cox.net for more information. In an effort to create PDF Time (Playtime, Downtime, and Family Time) Hewes will be holding monthly Homework Free Nights. Our next homework-free night is Wednesday, March 8. In March, we recognize this month as an Appreciation of the Arts. March 7 will be a concert joined with the Foothill HS Jazz Ensemble and Hewes Highlander Instrumental Music students. The performance will take place in the Hewes MPR beginning at 7PM. As donations are greatly appreciated, the concert is free. Please bring the whole family and any friends! Currently, the levels of Hewes Beginning and Advanced bands are combined to form the Hewes Highlander Intermediate Band. On behalf of the Instrumental Music Program we look forward to this event and seeing all of you once again!

The volleyball season will be starting in just a few weeks. The information meeting will be held after school on Tuesday, March 7th. The meeting will run from 3:00 - 3:30 PM in the Activity Center. Morning announcements will be made to remind interested students to attend. Permission slips are due March 15th!

The volleyball season runs from March 27th - May 3rd. Practices will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3-4 PM.

On Saturday, March 11 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Tustin Host Lions, Santa Ana Host Lions, and OC Central Lions will be hosting a free vision screening and recycled glasses event for our community. The event will be held at Century High School (1401 S. Grand Avenue, Santa Ana). This free event will give attendees access to vision screenings to assess for ocular health concerns and provide a usable pair of recycled glasses. Please see the attached flyer for additional details.

Congratulations to our 7th grader student Calla Nagler who designed the back cover of our student planner for the 2023-2024 school year. Our TUPE (Tobacco Use Prevention Education) grant provided a pair of Apple Air Pods for our winner. Congratulations!
