Stone Bank School
Reaching Out ~ March 8, 2019
From Mrs. Wohlfiel, Interim Principal
How do we know when something is “good”? When I choose fruit, I pick it up, squeeze it, smell it and hope that when I bite into it, it tastes as good as it felt and smelled. When my husband and I determine if that piece of raw meat that has been sitting in our fridge for a few days is still edible, we unwrap it, smell it, ignore the expiration date, hoping the aroma indicates it is fresh enough to throw on the grill instead of in the garbage.
When we want to know if the lesson is understood by learners, we can check for understanding in various ways to determine if the lesson needs to be retaught or expanded, or if the learner could have a better understanding if a different method of teaching is used.
Our state Forward Exam, according to the DPI Website, “is designed to gauge how well students are doing in relation to the Wisconsin Academic Standards. These standards outline what students should know and be able to do in order to be college and career ready.” We have chosen the following dates for assessment within the Exam window:
Forward Exam - March 18 through April 12.
Third grade
March 18 - 22
Fourth grade
April 9 - 12
Fifth grade
April 2 - 5
Sixth grade
April 15 - 18
Seventh grade
April 2 - 5
Eighth grade
April 9 - 12
What can we do to help our learners do their best? We can make sure all learners are well rested, well fed and most importantly, in school. When learners miss the scheduled exam time, the learners end up missing classroom time when they are completing the Exam. Thank you for helping our learners to have the best testing environment to show everyone in yet another way, how great Stone Bank School is!
School Survey
We want and need to be assessed as a whole school. We care deeply about our learners. We are always looking for ways to improve their educational experience. We also want to form a stronger partnership with you, our families!
To help us accomplish this goal, we are once again conducting a parent survey to help us understand what we are doing well and where we need to improve. Furthermore, your feedback will inform us of the work that has been accomplished to date related to the 2018-2019 Stone Banks School strategic planning goals.
We will be again working with School Perceptions, an independent educational research firm, to conduct the survey. Using this company ensures all responses are kept confidential. I strongly believe everyone should have a voice. This is a way for you to do this. You should receive the survey via email Monday, March 11. If you do not receive an email invitation to complete the survey, please check your “spam/junk” folder and then contact me for assistance.
Please respond to the survey before March 25 at 5 p.m. We value your comments and feedback. Together we will continue to shape the future of our school.
AMSAC
Thanks to everyone who helped (or are still helping) with hosting the seventh grade boys basketball AMSAC tournament. Whether you drove your son here, cheered on the team, volunteered at the gate, or made brats, all of your support is appreciated!
I hope everyone had a great time representing your school and families as you played basketball and led cheers this season. It is now time to play volleyball!
The next two weeks:
Spring Break is two weeks away and there are plenty activities happening up until then!
Our PTO organized a fundraiser to be held March 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hartland Culvers. The organization has also planned a school-wide Color Run fundraiser to be held later this year! The event will be introduced to our students Monday, March 18, during an assembly. Speaking of our very supportive PTO, the organization is looking for a few new leaders as the current terms are ending! Check out their website.
Our students are participating in a Fluid Power Competition at WCTC in Pewaukee. Best of luck March 15!
Our March School Board meeting is Monday, March 18.
Our 8th grade students are taking their high school Spanish placement test March 20.
The Student Council is hosting Bagels with Buds 7:00 a.m., Thursday, March 21 and Coffee and Conversations follows at 7:35 a.m.
The week of March 18-22 is Spirit Week, sponsored by our Student Council. Each day is a different dress up day for students and staff!

Tuesday: Star Day (dress like a star or wear clothing/accessories with stars);
Wednesday: Sports n’ stuff (Dress to support your fave team or sport);

I Love to Read Month
It's I Love to Read Month at Stone Bank School! We're celebrating all things reading throughout the month of March. You may hear your student talking about our reading contest, Book March Madness, or their classroom's fabulous door decorations. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for more on all the happenings, and get ready for this year's video produced by a group of middle school filmmakers with guidance from Mr. Jaeger. Stone Bank Track Club
Attention all 4th-8th grade families,
The Stone Bank Track Club will again be offered for any students in grades 4-8. If your child is looking for an activity to get involved in this spring, please consider having him/her join Track Club.
In Track Club, students get to be part of a team while working on improving individual performance in a variety of running and field events. Participants can choose which events they would like to do. It’s a fun opportunity to get in great shape and gain experience for future participation in Track & Field and/or other sports.
Track Club begins the second week in April and runs through the last week in May. Practice times/locations will vary between being held at school and using the Arrowhead track when it is available. (These practices will likely be later in the evening - 5:30-7 at AHS). Days that we are at Stone Bank, practice will be right after school from 2:30-4:00. Until we have confirmation about the track's availability, we are not able to give specific dates/times/locations for practices, but we hope to have this information out before Spring Break. There will be approximately 5-6 track meets, held at Arrowhead High School. See the attached flyer for tentative track meet dates!
A $20 fee, which covers the cost of event entry fees for meets and a team t-shirt, should be turned into Mrs. Vance before the first practice. After signing up here, you will receive an email within the next couple weeks with more information including practice days/times, as well as the necessary forms that will need to be completed and turned in by the first practice in April.
