News and Updates from FSMA
Thankful, Kindness, Giving...
At this time of year we hear words like this often in the community. A core belief at FSMA is that these things should be present everyday and not just saved for special occasions. As we put "World Kindness Day" on our calendars, one of the most common conversations in classrooms was whether or not we needed a day like this to remind us to be kind. While FSMA students enjoyed the spirit of surprising others with a Random Act of Kindness, the overall sentiment was that being thankful, giving, and kindness should be a natural part of everyday... and at FSMA it is!
December 1st
At our next "Coffee and Conversation," Liz will walk you through a Montessori math sequence. You will see how basic computation is taught... from learning how to combine two numbers to complex multi-digit division. It will give you a better sense of how your child is learning math at school, how Montessori materials support this learning, and you might even deepen your own understanding!
"Stuff the Crib"
You've heard of the Food Bank's "Stuff the Bus" campaign... at FSMA we are taking advantage of the cribs that were left here when we acquired the building and going to "Stuff the Crib!" To make it even more fun, some grade levels are decorating their cribs like floats in a parade (on a smaller scale), and will have their creations on display in the gym at the end of next week. All donated items will be given to the Food Bank of Delaware.
Still Waiting...
Last year's Smarter Balanced results have still not been mailed to families. We are working with the Department of Education and have found that there was an error from the test vendor that they are trying to fix. In the meantime, we have requested that they send new reports to the school so that we can distribute them. We expect this to happen in the next week and will send them home as soon as we receive them.
