NEWS FROM THE CAPTAIN'S QUARTERS

~Welcome back! I hope you all had a great break and were able to spend time with your families, rest, and eat all sorts of yummy food!! Now we're back, and have 3 very full weeks before the Christmas holidays! Can you believe it's already that time of year?? Time definitely flies!

~ We want to hang up our stockings again this year along our "fireplace" that will be decorated on the board across from the lounge. Please bring in your stockings to hang on the fireplace at the end of the week. We will start our "gift giving" next week and continue on through the break. Remember, this is a time when you can simply write notes, give warm fuzzies, etc. to the staff. It was so fun last year to get our stockings at the end of the long week before break and read little notes and see sweet treats that had been "delivered" throughout those last few days.

~ I am still looking for some volunteers to Skype with Eagle Mountain teachers/students about the vocabulary words! We are needing volunteers for the week of December 8th. If you would be willing, let me know! The kids would love this opportunity, and it's a great way to tie in the digital learning. Send me your name, and I will get you the information you need! You will receive a rewards (maybe Sonic drinks, perhaps) for volunteering. Shout out to Brittany, who has already offered!

~ As soon as we get the copy codes, we will let you know. Lily is getting trained today, so we should know more, as far as codes and cover sheets, once the training is complete. Thanks for your patience.

~ Thanks to the participants in our CIR Cohorts as well as the teachers whose rooms we visited. We had a great 2 days, and I feel like both sessions were very beneficial and a worthwhile use of our time!

~ Help promote Holiday Literacy Night! It will take place next Tuesday, December 8th from 5;30-7:30. I plan on sending home another note this week. We will open with Hoofbeats performing in the cafeteria, and then we will have several activities throughout (book walk, pictures with Santa, snacks, letters to Santa, story time, etc.). It should be a great time. We are offering pictures for $5 with Santa and that includes a 5x7. It's a pretty good deal! All the proceeds will go towards our clubs for the spring semester.

~ Beginning tomorrow, December 1st, you may wear jeans with a holiday shirt on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Mondays are still college shirts, and Fridays are still Elkins shirts. :)

CAMPUS NEWS

~ We will have a staff meeting on Monday, December 7th where we will review our PBIS/CHAMPS discipline system and look at discipline data so far.

~Amy P is offering a CPR class on Tuesday before Literacy Night for those who are interested. This will be a certification class, and that is definitely a great opportunity to get certified on our own campus.

~ Make sure to use the electronic signature to sign all walkthroughs and observations that have taken place thus far!

~We hope you can make it to the staff Christmas party on the 17th at 6:30. It will take place at Pappasitos off University/Forest Park. Shout out to Kelly Stowe and the Sunshine Committee for planning the party!

~We will have 2 more sessions of clubs. Next Friday will the final session for this round. We will have another round in the spring. Sign ups will take place in January when we get back!

~ The December spirit rally will be on THURSDAY, December 17th, since Friday is a 1/2 day. The Starsteppers from SHS will be there to perform, and our spirit rally committee will organize everything else!! They did a great job last week, and they're learning so much about communication, organization, and public speaking skills by organizing these events!

Words of the Week

This is the week you teach your words to other grade levels! Since we've been out a week, a little review is probably needed as well!

Kg: RAMBUNCTIOUS: wild, disorderly, boisterous

1st: TIMID: shy

2nd: TENACIOUS: stubborn or persistent

3rd: RIDICULOUS: absurd

4th: EXEMPLARY: nearly perfect, a good example

5th: DEMOCRACY: ruled by the people

Here is a link to the vocabulary S'more that has online practice for the words. There are Quizlet practice sets that include both basic as well as challenging. These are already done for you, so all you have to do is get the students to click the link!

Tell your students about the "Word Up Levels"

I have heard several of you tell me that your students are using the words in sentences and in conversation! Start filling out those "word up" level forms! We have the spirit sticks and are ready to start giving them out!! I know we have some "vocabers" who are ready to earn that title. I will also announce during the announcements as well, like we do for Faast Math certificates. So, start filling those out so we can hand some out this week! Who will be first to get it?? :)
