Team -
One of the first activities I asked the faculty to take part in when joining the EMS community was a chalk talk where we considering the role of race in our students lives and in our lives as educators.
Two years later I want to bring us back to that and challenge each of us individually to consider the responsibility we each have in why our students felt the need to walk out on Monday in protest of the racism in our community.
It is easy to deflect the responsibility or to assume that students chose to walk because of something someone else said, or that it was nice out, perhaps because their friends joined, or because they didn’t want to be in class.
And, it’s easy to feel frustrated by the adolescent behavior that is simultaneously occurring.
But, as the educators at Edmunds Middle School we must challenge ourselves to dig deep and consider our own role so that ultimately WE can create a community where all students feel safe and find success each day.
Only then will we be able to ensure all students are in class and engaged in rigorous learning.
With gratitude and in partnership.

The business office has indicated that the only way that payment can be received is by completing this form. It will only take a few seconds (please complete one per offering.
