Backround information
Martin Luther king Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta Georgia. MLK was both a Baptist minister and civil-rights activist. Just after 6 p.m. on April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. is fatally shot while standing on the balcony outside his second-story room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. It is believed that James Earl Ray murdered MLK because of his severe hatred towards African Americans. Ray did not believe in the civil rights movement and decided to plot the assassination of Martin Luther King. Till this day many people believe that their was more people involved and conspiracy theorist believe it was carried out by the government.
Media Portrayal
There are many theories on how MLK was actually murdered and by who. The one that everybody knows is James Earl Ray shot MLK from a motel nearby fleeing the scene after the shots were fired and a massive manhunt went underway to find James. The FBI tracked him across five country's and found him in London. Another claim is that the United States deliberately plotted the assassination of MLK and hired James Earl Ray to kill him because of what MLK was doing for the rights a African Americans and fighting the civil rights movement and the government was opposed to black people, so they killed him for doing the things he was doing to try to stop the civil rights movement. Many people also believe that James did not act alone in the plot to kill MLK and that he and people that James met in Canada were involved and that James didn't even shoot MLK but was blamed for the shooting.
Biases
The type of bias that you see in most stories of the MLK assassination would be why did James Earl Ray kill Martin Luther King. In most stories you would read about is how James was raciest towards black people and was anti civil rights movement. The authors were trying to persuade you that all white people hated black people and it all just depended on the author. Some articles you read were completely different from that and suggested that he was just a common criminal trying to get money or just did it to get moment of fame. The story you read was probably trying to persuade you to believe what they are telling you.
Critisisms
The type of criticism I notice when investigating the MLK assassination is historical criticism. This is true because of the many stories that you read and how the killing was carried out on the believes of the author. People write about what happened based on their research and their theories of what happened and try to persuade you to believe them. Everyday people read and write about what happened that day, but nobody never really knows what happened you just have to believe what you believe. The truth may never be told.
