Counselors Corner

Parma Community High School

Welcome Back!

Our 2015-2016 school year is off to a great start! We have made lots of changes this year in the hopes of better serving our students and families. Keep an eye on our counseling website for changes, updates, and helpful hints about being successful in school!

Ms. Sawyer and Mrs. Reynolds

October is Bullying Prevention Month

October is National Bullying Prevention Month and because Constellation Schools places a high value on character education, we will be highlighting a tip for educating yourself or others about bullying, as well as preventing or dealing with bullying.

If you need to report an incident of bullying, please talk to a counselor.

Tip for Parents: If you have a smart phone, get the KnowBullying app from It has simple conversation starters to use with your child.

Tip for Teachers: Take Immediate Action. Failure to act provides tacit approval of the behavior and can cause it to spread or worsen.

Tip for Students: Bullying is no joke, so don't treat it as such. Joking about it can cause someone with a real issue to be less likely to get help or report the issue. Remember the boy who cried wolf...

Senior Seminars

If you are a senior and are feeling lost in the college process, we are here to help! Mrs. Reynolds and Ms. Sawyer will be hosting Senior Seminars during lunches to help guide you through the process. Our schedule so far is:

Oct. 20 - Applying to Colleges/ College Essays

Oct. 27 - What to Expect from On-Campus Living

To sign up for one of these seminars, talk to a counselor!

Meet the New Counselor

While we are sad to see Mrs. Wilgus leave, we are excited to welcome Mrs. Reynolds as the new school counselor. Mrs. Reynolds and Ms. Sawyer are the go-to gals for all your guidance and counseling needs (well, almost)!

Mrs. Reynolds is a former high school English teacher and recently completed her master's degree in school counseling at John Carroll University. She absolutely loves her job and is passionate about college and career counseling. In her personal life, Mrs. Reynolds lives with her husband and cat, loves to read, make crafts, travel all over the world, and obsess over anything Harry Potter related. She went to Belize and San Diego, CA last summer and is planning a trip to Germany for next summer, so feel free to stop in and see pictures of her travels (during your study hall, of course)!

PSAT 2015

PCHS will once again be administrating the PSAT to 10th and 11th graders. This year is different from previous years, though. Due to College Board changes, the PSAT will be given during school on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7:45 a.m. There is no Saturday test date.

The PSAT/ NMSQT propels students toward college and career readiness. By taking the test, you're automatically screened for the National Merit Scholarship Program (though usually only juniors meet entry requirements). Taking the PSAT/ NMSQT and saying "yes" to Student Search Service makes it easy for colleges and scholarship programs to find you.

The cost is $15. If you are interested in taking the PSAT, please see Ms. Sawyer or Mrs. Reynolds for more information on how to sign up. Payment in either a check or money order can be made out to Parma Community. Please note that there is limited seating available, so sign up today!

Upcoming Dates

Watch out for these upcoming dates for college and career representatives! See Ms. Sawyer or Mrs. Reynolds for more details. If you are interested in attending one of the college representative sessions, sign up in either Ms. Macejko's room or Ms. Planic's room!
