Class Schedule for Hoedown
Thank You from Cypress Assistance Ministries:
Dear Students,
You are the heart of our organization. Through your efforts in sponsoring a food drive and making a gift of $319.11 to support our pantry, we are able to be your eyes, ears and hands in the neighborhood. We see the joy of relief when we can provide food and help with paying the bills.
We are proud to be your representatives and will ensure that your generosity is used to the greatest good possible. Thank you for your heartfelt kindness.

Drill Days - March 20th & 23rd
On the mornings of Tuesday, March 20th and Friday, March 23rd, we will be practicing several different emergency scenarios. In addition to monthly fire drills, we are required by our district to practice four different crisis drills each semester. During these times we will be practicing the following drills: lock-down, shelter in place, secure the building and a reverse evacuation.
Student safety is a top priority at Farney Elementary. Our goal for performing the drills is to provide our students and staff with knowledge about possible emergency situations and to make sure they are familiar with our campus procedures. We will assure students that there is no actual emergency.
If you are planning a visit to Farney the mornings of March 20th or 23rd, you may experience delays as all staff members are involved in the drills. We hope to have our practice completed by 9:30 a.m. Please let us know if you have any questions.

March Character Education Theme
The theme for March is PATIENCE. Patience is waiting until later for something that you really want now. Think about a time that you had to wait for. Maybe you were playing a game or waiting in a restaurant. Sometimes we get grumpy when we have to wait, but just remember being unkind doesn’t make things happen any faster. The next time that you do not want to be patient, close your eyes and just count or take deep breaths to help you relax. Just like anything, being patient takes practice.
Credit By Exam
Students in grades K-5 will have four opportunities during the school year to use “credit-by-exam” to accelerate to another grade level. Students will only have one opportunity to test for each grade level considered.
To apply to take the test to skip kindergarten, a student must be 5 by September 1, and registered in a CFISD school. To apply to take the test to skip grade 1, a student must be 6 by September 1, and enrolled in a CFISD school.
Students who earn scores of 80% or better on each component of the credit-by-exam will qualify to advance one grade. Only one grade level may be “skipped” each year. No retests will be given.
If you are interested in getting more information about credit-by-exam, please contact the school counselor. Application is attached below.
5th Grade Transition
Blue Elective forms went home with our 5th graders last Friday. Please take the time to talk this over with your students to make a decision for their elective choice. These forms are due back to the counselor by Thursday, March 8th.
WATCH D.O.G.S.
Our Watch Dog program consists of Dads or Father Figures of Great Students who volunteer one day at their child’s school. They will perform a variety of tasks including assisting with the car line in the morning, monitoring the cafeteria and helping in their child’s classroom. Please contact dhara.desai@cfisd.net if you are interested in participating and to schedule your date. We look forward to your participation and hope to see many dads at Farney Elementary!

From the Librarian
Dear Farney Families,
I am in the process of creating a “makerspace” learning environment in the library. What is a makerspace? It’s a place that allows for creativity and innovation to occur as students engage in learning through hands on experiences. Students will be given time to design, create, build and collaborate. In order to begin this opportunity in the library, we need to collect general household items, crafts and miscellaneous items. Thank you in advance for any donations that you are willing/able to provide. Donations can be dropped off at the front office or the library.
Glue: sticks, Elmer’s
Tape: scotch, masking, packing, painters’ tape (blue), duct tape (various colors/designs)
Paper: scrapbook, cardstock, construction
Craft items: Pipe cleaners, yarn, string, craft sticks, brads, pony beads, beads, rulers, scrapbook stickers, sequins, ribbon, jewels, pom-poms, cotton balls, velcro, paper clips, clay, model magic, play dough, crayons, markers, map pencils, scrap material, felt, googly eyes
Household items: straws (straight/flexible), paper plates, Q-tips, coffee filters, toothpicks, rubber bands, plastic cups, plastic spoons, clothespins, hole punch, kids scissors, cotton balls, cookie cutters, baggies
Recyclables: empty kleenex boxes, paper towel rolls, wrapping paper rolls, cereal boxes, shoe boxes, egg cartons, bubble wrap, styrofoam, newspaper, packing materials
