IAMacomb Update

August 9, 2021

Big picture

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful summer! We are looking forward to returning to full in-person learning on Monday, August 16th. We know the most optimal learning model is when students are in-person with their teachers. Not only is it the most ideal learning environment it is also what is generally best for students’ social and emotional needs. We are proud that our staff has been able to meet the needs of our community of learners during these unique times.

We will, of course, continue to monitor state and local guidelines and make any necessary adjustments to our plans. We will continue to follow the local guidance from the Macomb County Health Department and Chippewa Valley Schools. We are excited to continue to pursue the IB curriculum in the way it was designed to be taught—student-centered, inquiry-base, collaborative and in-person!

This year, we plan to focus on our school culture. We want to rebuild the connectedness that is an integral part of our community. It will be a great experience to be back together for in-person learning. Thank you in advanced for your patience, trust and partnership!

Transportation & Student Dismissal

A quick reminder about bussing. Our transportation will start after Labor Day. More information will be available soon about routes and times. Students expected to depart after school at 2:35pm, unless students are with a club advisor. Students must depart when club meetings come to an end. The main office closes at 3:30pm.

Face Coverings/Masks

We will provide an update later this week.

Homeroom - First Day

Students should report to their assigned homeroom upon arrival at school on the first day. Copies of student schedules and lunch assignments will be available as well as other important information. Once homeroom is done, students will proceed to first block and there is a full day of school.

Class Schedules

Mr. Garcia is finishing schedules. Students should follow the schedules that are in the PowerSchool portal on August 16th. We hope to have the portal opened up by the end of this week.

IB Exam Results - Class of 2021

Graduates in the class of 2021 performed outstanding on the IB Exams! 96% of our IB Diploma Candidates earned IB Diplomas. This is a phenomenal result, especially considering the complexities students were faced with as a result of the pandemic. Congratulations to the students and a heartfelt thank to our dedicated teachers!

9th Grade Orientation

The Link Crew, led by Mr. Tapp, Ms. Thompson and Mr. Lambdin, have been working this summer to plan and prepare for the 9th grade orientation! This will take place on August 12th. In addition, Ms. Amthor and Mr. Garcia are planning a new parent orientation.

Symptom Screener & District Nurse

Please continue to follow the screener protocol for your student each day. In addition, if you are experiencing symptoms or need to report COVID related circumstances to the district nurse please call: 586-723-2188. We have a plan in place to support students who may need to quarantine as a result of COVID-related situations. The nurse can advise you in these situations.
