Notes from the Principal
As a child I remember it feeling like aeons would pass between birthdays. A year was FOREVER. As an adult, it seems years fly by, and kids grow so fast!
While not much changes between the ages of 30 and 40, a lot changes over the course of kids' elementary lives. As a society, we hear about the "terrible twos" (2 year olds can tantrum a lot over nothing), but we don't talk much about the challenges and wonderful things that come with subsequent ages. As parents and as educators, knowing the milestones and different phases of life can help us put behaviors into a context, and can prepare us to help our children navigate their current realities.
I hope you find this information useful!
Developmental Milestones for Typical 4-Year Olds
Developmental Milestones for Typical Kindergarteners
Developmental Milestones for Typical First Graders
Developmental Milestones for Typical 2nd and 3rd Graders
End of Day Reminders
If you need to pick up your child early, you need to call the office prior to 2:30 pm so that the message can get delivered and children get to the appropriate places. Pulling kids off buses at the last minute holds up dismissal for everyone.
School ends at 3:26. Early dismissal should only be used for rare circumstances, e.g. doctor's appointments. If you need to get in and out quickly, I suggest that you park on 47th St. on the N side of Layton and walk in to get your child.

EHSA Update
Edgewood Home and School Association is our school’s form of a Parent/Teacher Organization. Each month a group of parents, along with a few teachers and Mrs. Boyd, meet together to discuss the happenings at Edgewood. We also take the time to discuss and plan our school fundraisers- Your input is important to us! We love new ideas and appreciate the new perspectives as we evaluate past activities. Attending an EHSA meeting is a great way to get involved, to stay informed, and get a sneak peek at what is happening at Edgewood Elementary.
Our new event, Family Movie night (happening TONIGHT- 2/8 6-8 PM!) was suggested at a previous EHSA meeting by a newcomer. With her great idea and support from the other attendees, EHSA Family Movie night came to be. We are looking forward to a fun night to get together, free of charge. Don’t forget to bring blankets and pillows. Snacks will be available for purchase.
Join us at our next meeting, Tuesday, February 12th at 6:30 PM. We will be discussing our spring fundraisers (Spring St. Patrick’s Day Dance, Book Fair, Walkathon and NEW IDEAS welcome!) Mrs. Boyd will be there as well as a few classroom teachers and support staff. All are welcome.
Looking Ahead:
Friday, February 8th, 6 PM- Edgewood Family Movie Night
Tuesday, February 12th, 6:30 PM- EHSA Meeting (less than 1 hour. Kids welcome too! )
Tuesday, March 12th, 6:30 PM- EHSA Meeting (always less than 1 hour! J)

Cold Weather is Here!
If students do not have snow pants, snow boots, or snow mittens, they MUST stay on the blacktop by the building where it's cleared.
Please label coats, hats, and gloves with a sharpie on the tag, and if you're missing something, encourage your child to check the lost and found if something is missing.
If you need assistance getting a hat, coat, or snow gear for your child, please let Mrs. Boyd or Mrs. Michlig know.
