Lyman Elementary

February 2023

Note From Mr. McPhee

Dear Lyman Families,

January was our mid-year I-Ready testing window where we assessed our student's academic progress in reading and math. Over the last three weeks, our students took two short tests to determine their growth so far this year. All grade levels showed positive growth in these key academic areas. We use this data to determine our students learning needs, with both interventions and accelerated learning opportunities for all students.

We will wrap up another Lyman Robotics Club season in early February. We had a great season of exploring ways to problem solve the robotic tasks around energy resources and apply math and thinking skills outside of the classroom. The club members and I look forward to next year’s theme filled with new challenges and creative solutions.

As we approach the halfway point of the school year, I would like to remind you of our before school study table and extended learning opportunity for all 3rd through 6th graders. The study table meets four days a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:25-8:55 in our library. Our staff will work with your child on any subject matter, as well as study and organizational skills. Please consider taking advantage of this great-extended learning opportunity.

February has a few interruptions to the regular routine. February 17 is a designated snow make-up day, with Monday, February 20 being President's day holiday. Since we have not closed school due to snow, there will be no school on the 17th. Thankfully, the rest of the month is on a normal schedule.

The Lyman Parent Group will be back meeting again in February as we ramp up for the finish to the school year. This month's meeting is on Tuesday, February 7 at 6:00pm in the Lyman Elementary library. Please come out and support Lyman elementary through your participation on the parent group.

Have a great February!

Spring is on the way!
