Rama proclaimed Cebu City Mayor Anew
After garnering more than 6,000 votes against opponent Tomas Osmena

CEBU CITY, May 15 (PIA) -- Incumbent Mayor Atty. Michael L. Rama was recently declared Mayor of Cebu City for the second time after leading more than 6,000 over his opponent, incumbent Cebu City South District Representative Tomas DR Osmena.
At 4:45 p.m. of May 14, Rama of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA)-Team Rama was proclaimed by the Chairman of the Board of Canvassers, Election Officer Atty. Ferdinand Grujilde, for garnering 217, 448 votes.
Osmena of the Liberal Party-Bando Osmena Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) garnered 211,072 votes.

Elections in Cebu province ‘generally peaceful’

CEBU CITY, May 13 (PIA) --- The conduct of this year’s midterm elections in Cebu province was generally peaceful.
Cebu Provincial Police Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador said compared to previous elections, the peace and order in the province was peaceful as there were no reports of election-related violent incidents during election day.
The provincial police chief has been roving around election hotspots in the province a few days leading to May 13, particularly in Bogo City.
Bogo City has become their benchmark for assessing the peace and order in the province, P/SSupt. Comendador told the Philippine Information Agency.
Bogo City is considered a “highly potentially violent” area in Cebu province during the polls.
It is one of the three cities and 11 towns in the province that were categorized as election watch list areas (EWAS) for the May 2013 polls.
However, Comendador said no election-related incidents have been reported in Bogo City as of this writing.
Towns under EWAS are Compostela Daanbantayan, Consolacion, Ginatilan, Dumanjug, Medellin, San Fernando, Ronda, San Remigio, Tuburan, and Tabogon.
Other cities under EWAS aside from Bogo are Toledo and LapuLapu.
Eearlier, incidents of strafing, mauling, and discovery of grenades in Bogo City were reported.
But Comendador said it has not been confirmed whether said incidents were election-related. (RMN/PIA Cebu)

Feature: Eggplant farmers see hope in organic farming

Carcar is a thriving city in Cebu south, largely agricultural with around 200 farmers growing eggplants. For these farmers, exposing their eggplants to chemicals has become an accepted practice.
What farmers do is dip the eggplants in strong chemicals before it is harvested to make it look healthy. This practice is prevalent among eggplant producers who opt for high income.
DSWD-7 partners with Julie’s Bakeshop

CEBU CITY, May 9 (PIA) -- The Regional Rehabilitation Centre for Youth (RRCY) here has partnered with Julie’s Bakeshop to launch a feeding program in the municipality of Argao.
RRCY is a project spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office in Region 7.

DOST training op for Computer Numerical Control Machinists

CEBU CITY, May 15 (PIA) -- Demand for Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machinists in the job market is rising these days, according to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
In the Philippines, only a few CNC machinists are trained as most of those who have been trained have left the country for good, noted DOST.
