By Rachelle M. Nessia

CEBU CITY, May 13 (PIA) --- The conduct of this year’s midterm elections in Cebu province was generally peaceful.

Cebu Provincial Police Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador said compared to previous elections, the peace and order in the province was peaceful as there were no reports of election-related violent incidents during election day.

The provincial police chief has been roving around election hotspots in the province a few days leading to May 13, particularly in Bogo City.

Bogo City has become their benchmark for assessing the peace and order in the province, P/SSupt. Comendador told the Philippine Information Agency.

Bogo City is considered a “highly potentially violent” area in Cebu province during the polls.

It is one of the three cities and 11 towns in the province that were categorized as election watch list areas (EWAS) for the May 2013 polls.

However, Comendador said no election-related incidents have been reported in Bogo City as of this writing.

Towns under EWAS are Compostela Daanbantayan, Consolacion, Ginatilan, Dumanjug, Medellin, San Fernando, Ronda, San Remigio, Tuburan, and Tabogon.

Other cities under EWAS aside from Bogo are Toledo and LapuLapu.

Eearlier, incidents of strafing, mauling, and discovery of grenades in Bogo City were reported.

But Comendador said it has not been confirmed whether said incidents were election-related. (RMN/PIA Cebu)
