A Note from Mr. Harris

August 4, 2021

Principal's Message

Wow, I cannot believe students will be retuning to school in a few weeks. I hope everyone has been having a wonderful summer and that the students are as excited as we are to return to Willow Bend for another great year.

As you have probably heard, the information coming from the Illinois health department is evolving and the guidelines related to COVID continue to change. I want all of you to know that our number one priority is to keep students safe and in school as much as possible. To that end, we will try as best as we can to go beyond the guidelines (when space permits) so our students stay safe and do not need to quarantine from school because they are considered a "close contact" while they are in the school.

I will share the latest information on all of our safety precautions as we get closer to the start of the school year when information should be more set. There are however, a few guidelines (lunch/recess and entrance and exit procedures) that I feel comfortable sharing with you now.

Please note that changes in our safety guidelines will change if State health guidelines change.

If you have any questions, please contact the school at 847-963-7300.

Mr. Harris

Entrance and Exit Procedures

Our plan this year will be very similar to last school year. If you are dropping off your children or picking them up, you will need to do that from the South side of the school. Please pull up as far as you can so we can exit at least 4 cars at a time. Students can enter the school starting at 7:35 am. Buses are the only vehicles allowed in the East side of the building (front doors) at the beginning and end of the day. We will not have to do temperature checks every day, but the students will still have to have a self-certification lanyard as they come into school. We will be using door 13 for our 6th graders and doors 2 and 3 for bus riders and car riders.

Lunch and Recess

Similar to last year, students will not wear a mask when they are eating. Students will continue to eat their lunch in the classroom unless we feel we cannot keep students appropriately spaced apart. If we need to, we will split classrooms up so some students eat in the classroom and the others will eat in the cafeteria. While outside at recess students will need to stay with their classroom in their zone, but they will not need to wear a mask while outside. In addition, students will have their own classroom recess equipment to use and we are including the park as 2 of our zones.

Student's Classroom Teacher

Please note that all families should be able to log in to the parent portal in Infinite Campus at the end of the day on Thursday (August 5th) and see who their child's teacher is for the 2021-22 school year!

Parents and students can come to the school to drop off student supplies and quickly meet their teacher on Tuesday, August 17th . The scheduled time is 8:30am-9:30am, but we may divide up the time of when families can come to lessen the congestion during this time. I will clarify the times soon, but I wanted you to have the basic information ahead of time. Masks must be worn by both students and parents when dropping off supplies.
