Teacher Meet & Greet
Teacher Meet & Greet
Families are welcome to explore the hallways of our building to check out all of our wonderful renovations from the 2019 Bond project completed last summer. We do ask that families only visit the classrooms of their current teachers. This will allow teachers to focus their attention on their new students and also help to ensure enough space in the classrooms. There will be lots of opportunities for students to check in with their former teachers once school begins.
The PTA will provide popsicles on the playground for students to enjoy after they visit their classroom. We look forward to seeing our Tigers!

Walled Lake Elementary School, West West Maple Road, Walled Lake, MI, USA
Welcome Kindergarten Tigers!
The beginning of Kindergarten is a very exciting time in your child’s life and we look forward to a great school year. Your child is in kind, capable hands with our kindergarten teachers and our entire staff.
To help our youngest learners transition into kindergarten, WLCSD will be utilizing a staggered start on the first three days of school, Wednesday, August 25, Thursday, August 26, and Friday, August 27. Please see the letter below from Mrs. Cathy Kochanski, Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services regarding the staggered start.
Last names A-L 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Last names M-Z 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Please call the WLE main office at 248-956-4300 with any questions.
First Day of School- August 25
We ask that parents and students practice walking to your child's classroom and take any pictures with your child's teacher during our Meet & Greet event on August 24th. After the Meet & Greet event, we respectfully ask that students walk to their classroom on their own starting on the first day of school. Our staff and safeties are available to help all students during this time every day. Thank you for your help with this.
Should a parent/guardian need to drop something off, he/she should do so in the main office.
End-of-Day Plans for WLE Students
- Ride the school bus home
- Use the Tiger Pickup process to go home in a private vehicle with an approved adult
- Walk home
- Report to Prime Time Care
Communication is key to make for a safe and efficient end of the day. Please clearly communicate the regular end-of-day plan for your child with his/her teacher. Please report any changes to dismissal plans to the main office and to your child's teacher by 3:00 p.m., when possible. Thank you for your partnership in this process.
Suggested Supply List
Here is a suggested list of school supplies for your child. Although all donations are greatly appreciated, please rest assured that Walled Lake Elementary will provide the essential supplies for learning. We are grateful for the donations of community partners that contribute to our school supplies.
Students may bring in school supplies at the Teacher Meet & Greet, August 24th, or the first few days of school. Some find it easier to bring them in at the Meet & Greet so they have less to carry the first day.
**If your child needs a backpack, Walled Lake Elementary has received a generous donation of brand new backpacks! Please stop by the main office during the Teacher Meet & Greet if a new backpack would be helpful to your family.**
ALL K-12 FAMILIES MUST COMPLETE

CLASS LISTS
Teacher placements are now available in Skyward Family Access. If you have not yet completed the Online Back to School Packet Registration, you will not be able to view your child's teacher.
It is our top priority to develop appropriate classroom groupings that will provide all of our children with the best opportunity for academic and social success. Our staff has worked extremely hard in determining the most appropriate classroom placements for all students individually and collectively. As a result, no changes to class assignments will be made. Rest assured that our entire teaching staff is highly qualified, experienced and care about your child’s well-being and education. We are committed to providing each child an exceptional education and overall great school experience.
Please remember, you must have completed the Back to School Packet Information online before you can view your child's classroom placement.
The school-home partnership is a key component to our students' and our school's success. Please communicate any questions, concerns, or praise to your child’s teacher. Proactive and open communication along with a trusting and positive relationship plays an important role in your child having an academically and socially successful school year.
COVID -19 Communication
Please remember that children should stay home and the main office should be notified in each of the scenarios below:
- student exhibits symptoms suggestive of COVID-19
- student has been tested for COVID-19 and has results pending, (other than routine screeners)
- student has tested positive for COVID-19
Enrollment
For those that have started the enrollment process, please submit any missing documents ASAP.
For those that are waiting for their enrollment to be processed, we thank you for your patience. Our enrollment team is working 7 days a week to process enrollments as quickly as possible.
Please call 248-956-2085 or 248-956-2086 for assistance with enrollment. Our WLE office team can also provide guidance on the process and can be reached at 248-956-4300.
Walled Lake Elementary Bell Times
School Begins: 8:55 a.m.
Dismissal: 4:00 p.m.
Please be sure to plan ahead to ensure your child arrives to school on time, each day. The first few minutes are very valuable as children learn to engage in morning routines, check in with their teacher and classmates, learn the plan for the day, and even engage in 1-1 or small group interventions. These first few minutes set the tone for the rest of their day. Students are most successful when they arrive on time.
WLCSD Transportation Updates
For additional information regarding our Transportation Department, please visit our website!
- Bus transportation will be provided on the first day of school for those students who are eligible for bus transportation throughout the regular school year.
- Transportation postcards will not be sent. Bus routes are now available in Skyward Family Access under the transportation tab.
- Bus drivers will be contacting Kindergarten families by August 20th (drop off times for students attending in the AM and pick up times for the PM students will be provided in that call.)
- If your child is eligible for bus transportation, it is recommended that they start this routine on the first day of school. Parents are welcome to follow the bus to school to see your child off to their first day of school, but it is highly recommended that they ride the bus to and from school this first day if they will be riding daily during the school year.
WLCSD Food Service Updates
Our hot lunch program begins on Wednesday, August 25th for students in grades K-5. Breakfast AND lunch are FREE to ALL WLE students. Please see below for additional details.
You can always visit Walled Lake's Food Service Website for information by clicking HERE.
Free & Reduced Breakfast/Lunch Information
Please see the letter below from Julie Fortner, Supervisor of Food Services. Although ALL students will be eligible to receive free breakfast and free lunch, we are asking families that have financial hardship and may traditionally qualify for free/reduced lunch to complete the Free/Reduced Lunch Application in Skyward Family Access.
We are pleased to inform you that Walled Lake Consolidated Schools will be participating in the Seamless Summer Option as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs for the School Year 2021-2022.
The GREAT NEWS is that ALL students enrolled at our school can receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at NO CHARGE to your household each day.
We still need your household to fill out and sign the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application. This information is critical in determining the amount of money that our school receives from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs like Title I A, At-risk (31a), Title II A, E-Rate, etc.
These supplemental programs have the potential to offer supports and services for our students including, but not limited to:
• Instructional supports (staff, supplies & materials, etc.)
• Non-instructional services (counseling, social work, health services, etc.)
• Professional Learning for staff
• Parent and Community engagement supplies and activities
• Technology
• Pandemic-EBT
We are asking that you please complete and submit it as soon as possible to ensure that additional funding for our school is available to meet the needs of our students. All information on the application submitted is confidential. Without your
assistance in completing and returning the attached application, our school cannot maximize the use of available State and Federal funds.
If we can be of any further assistance, please contact us at Anne Merchant at 248-956-3081 or at annemerchant@wlcsd.org.
Sincerely,
Julie Fortner
