Historical fiction is fiction that is based on historical events. Although some facts may be true, most of the story is fictionalized.
Setting
In historical Fiction, the setting is very important to the story. in order to have an authentic setting the author must research the time period. They must know how people lived, what kinds of homes they lived in, what they wore and what they ate. these facts are all essential to the plot. The plot might surround a specific event in history but the author changes a few facts to include his or her own story.
Characters
Characters in historical fiction books can be fictional or real. If a character is real, the events that occur can be fictionalized or a real event with fictional information can be added. If the protagonist is a fictional character the events can be fictional or a real event.
