CMS Friday Focus
CHESTERTON MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER - December 9, 2022
Dear CMS Families,
Congratulations to the CMS Orchestra and Choir students and directors. They put on an amazing concert on Tuesday! The CMS Band will perform this week on Monday evening! Our sports teams and clubs are continuing to roll, as well. Science Olympiad competes tomorrow downstate. Additionally, CMS hosts the Lake-Porter Conference Wrestling Tournament tomorrow at CMS. Our students and coaches are representing CMS and Duneland Schools so well. We are proud of all of them!
Winter NWEA Reading and Math make-ups will be finishing up this week. Teachers have been helping students set goals for growth from the fall NWEA assessment to the winter assessment in their Advisory classes. Good luck to all of our students in reaching their goals! Results for parents and students will be available via Skyward soon. I will let you know when they are uploaded.
Announcements:
Please remind your children that they must be passing all of their classes at grade checks in order to be eligible to participate in CMS Athletics. Grade checks occur at the mid-term and end of each grading period (every 4.5 weeks). If you have any questions, please contact the CMS Athletic Director, Rich Gross, at rgross@duneland.k12.in.us.
Reminders:
If you are dropping something off to your child after school for extra-curricular activities or any other reason prior to 3:30 p.m., you must use the main office entrance, located at Door 1 on Morgan Avenue.
Parents who are picking up their child or dropping something off for their child must present a driver's license or state ID to our office staff in order to do so. Also, if a parent sends someone else to pick their student up or drop something off for them, they must not only present identification but must also be on the list in Skyward as a family or emergency contact.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Respectfully,
Mike Hamacher
CMS Principal

English Teacher, Dora Becker nominates students for the Junior National Young Leaders Conference
Mrs. Becker has nominated 9 current students for the Junior National Young Leaders Conference because they demonstrated maturity, excellence, and leadership potential. On the site for Envision, who sponsors the Young National Leaders Conference, they say, "Our programs are developed by educators and subject-matter professionals. Using innovative tools and techniques, our activities mirror real-world challenges and facilitate critical thinking and communication among the groups. To date, over 800,000 exceptional students have benefited from the transformational experiences our programs provide."
Mrs. Becker has nominated students in other years with some of them going to Washington DC to join other students who were also nominated by their teachers. This is an empowering and enriching opportunity for these students and we are so proud to see them nominated.
