COMMUNITY UPDATE
GREETINGS COLLINS CUBS-
Congratulations to our 6th grade choir and Mr. Baker! The choir concert on Wednesday evening was exceptional. Well done! A few reminders for the upcoming week: please be sure to see our DECEMBER TO REMEMBER CALENDAR for Collins and we invite you to participate in the events each day. We look forward to welcoming Jonathan Rand, a Michigan author, for a special assembly on Monday, December 11th. Furthermore, students at Collins will be practicing an additional lockdown procedural practice this week.
BEHAVIOR REMINDERS:
As we near a much deserved break, students continue to need reminders to follow the school rules while in school. Please take a minute to remind students of expectation of our PAWS behaviors: Positive Choices, Act Responsibly, Will be RESPECTFUL, Show Integrity. Please also remind them that we must be following school rules on the bus and playground as well. Thank you.
DECEMBER TO REMEMBER for STAFF and STUDENTS
Families, we are excited to bring a daily opportunity to celebrate the various winter holidays together at Collins with a daily spirit day for the month of December. It is sure to be a DECEMBER TO REMEMBER! Families, we will be looking for donations to help the Collins staff have a December to Remember as well. If you would like to donate for our staff, please SIGN UP HERE!

WINTER WEATHER CLOTHING:
Just a reminder that students need to be dressed appropriately for the weather. Our plan and intent is to be outside as much as possible in approved weather conditions. If your family needs additional supplies of hats, coats, or gloves, please contact the office and we can certainly help provide materials to use. Thank you! We are happy to help!
LOST AND FOUND
We have a ton of lost and found items. Please take a minute after school to stop in and collect your children's items. Lots of hats, gloves, and jackets are in the bin by the Breakfast Door.
VISITORS' POLICIES
Prior to entering the building for any reason, all visitors that are coming to the school to pick up their child and/or volunteer must show their driver's license to the camera prior to entering our school. This is a district policy that we must begin enforcing. Please be sure to buzz the front door and hold up your license prior to being allowed into the building. As this is a safety issue for all, we appreciate your understanding! Thank you for your support!

STUDENT BEHAVIOR POLICY
P.A.W.S.
SUPER CUBS SHOW THEIR P.A.W.S!
P: Positive Choices
A: Act Responsibly
W: Will be Respectful
S: Shows Integrity
All Collins Cubs are expected to follow protocols and procedures while showing their PAWS! That includes inside the classrooms, during the hallways, on the playgrounds, and for arrivial/dismissal as well. Teachers will be on the lookout for ways to celebrate students showing their PAWS and have a chance to earn incentives.
UTICA COMMUNITY SCHOOLS PARENT HANDBOOK FOR BEHAVIORS
Please review all Utica Community Schools behavior policies in the Parent Handbook attached to the link below. It is expected that all UCS policies and procedures will be adhered to at any/all school functions and on school properties. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
SCHOOL SAFETY UPDATE
Safety remains a priority for our school. Collins Elementary is once again providing training to our students on our safety protocols. The protocols identify actions that students may be asked to take in the event of a potential incident: hold, secure, lockdown, evacuate and shelter.
The training is provided through a short, animated video. In the video, the teacher – Mrs. Appleton – and her students walk through the different responses in a very relaxed and engaging way for younger children. The script was written by our staff.
The protocols will continue to be part of the training while practicing our regular school safety drills, such as fire drills, security drills, tornado drills, evacuation procedures, etc.)
The video is available for you to review at this link: UCS School Safety: Standard Response Protocol - Elementary - YouTube If you have any questions, please contact our office.
