Westside Pack Post
Welcome back and Happy New Year! We are excited to make 2024 an amazing year here at Westside. This month will be busy as we dive deep into learning and continue preparing students to take their year end assessments. We have midterms coming up and are excited to continue watching student growth and progress. Our teachers will participate in two days of professional development on January 15 and 16 to increase their knowledge of engagement strategies.

January Dates to Remember
January 15 and 16 - No School (Professional Development for Teachers)
January 19 - FAME
January 19 - Midterms
January 19 through February 2 - Souper Bowl (canned food drive with Skyline High School)
Late Start Fridays
Our school and district policy is that students go outside for recess when the weather is above 0 degrees. Wind chill and feel like temperatures are taken into account when determining whether or not we go outside. Please remind your student to dress appropriately for winter weather when they leave the house in the morning. We strongly encourage that students wear snow boots, a coat, a hat, and gloves. Snow pants may also be worn during recess and taken off when students come back inside. Students can bring different shoes to change into when they are inside.
If it is going to be an inside morning due to low temperature, students will see a display of "Chilly the Penguin" outside the school. They can then enter the school through any grade level door or the front door and either get breakfast or sit on the benches outside of their classroom until the bell rings.
- PTO Meeting - Wednesday, January 3 at 2:45 in the Westside library

Title 1 at Westside
Welcome Back! I hope you all enjoyed the break and are ready to begin the New Year. This month our lessons will focus on kindness and empathy. We will learn how showing empathy empowers friendships and relationships. Students will practice using their skills by reviewing various social situations and coming up with ideas on how to show empathy. Feel free to ask your child about empathy and what they have learned.
