Celebrate Catholic Schools Week
Since, I was a young girl at St. Monica's Grade School in Mishawaka, IN, I looked forward to Catholic Schools Week with much anticipation. I remember celebrating daily mass (yes, it was every day when I was in grammar school) during Catholic Schools Week with Sister Margaret, our principal, telling us that we were blessed to be part of such a wonderful community that celebrates our love of our Catholic faith.
I now invite you to join us for National Catholic Schools Week, our annual celebration of what makes education at St. Damian School outstanding.
Starting with Sunday Mass on January 29, we have a whole week of activities planned to show what our students are accomplishing and to celebrate the community we have built to educate tomorrow’s citizens and church leaders. The theme of our celebration is “Catholic Schools: Faith. Excellence. Service.”
We hope you will join us for our mass at 11:30 a.m. followed by our open house from 12:30-2 p.m. And, please invite friends and family to join you as well! We love our open house and are so excited that we are able to once again open our school to the community.
On Tuesday, January 31, 2023, we celebrate our "Heart of the School Mass." This is a mass that will recognize a member of our faculty and staff for the gifts they provide our students daily. And, at 1:45 p.m. we will host our inaugural spelling bee. Please feel free to join us.
Along with those activities, our children will be making Valentine's for a local nursing home, participating in a flag raising ceremony, and playing volleyball with our faculty and staff!
The theme encompasses the core products and values that can be found in Catholic schools across the country. Not only are we teaching students to become future servant leaders, faith-filled disciples and enriched citizens in our communities, educators are growing with them. In Catholic schools, we are all learners, servants and leaders.
These shared qualities are what make us work. They are what has made St. Damian succeed for over 60 years! I hope you will visit during National Catholic Week!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Miller
