Week of Respect
We've been discussing what a respectful classmate does, says, and never does/says. We also made thank you cards for our school's unsung heroes, such as our custodians, maintenance crew, and grounds keepers.
Parent Visitation
Parent Visitation is next Tuesday AM and Wednesday PM. Our class schedule and room numbers for October 18 (Tuesday, 9-11 am) and October 19 (Wednesday, 1-2:30 pm) can be found here. We look forward to having you!
Pumpkin Math
Each year, we do a fun math project with pumpkins. Please consider donating a pumpkin to our classroom (medium to large). We need 9 pumpkins for this project. The pumpkins should be delivered by Monday, October 24. Please email me if you can donate a pumpkin.
Mrs. Christine Schneider joined our class community this week as our educational assistant. She lives in Cherry Hill and has two daughters, one of which is in 5th grade. We are excited to welcome her to Tatem!
MobyMax or XtraMath
Please encourage your children to practice a few times a week to increase fluency with their math facts. It should only take about 15 minutes per session.
Signing Assessments
Please continue to sign and return tests and quizzes. Thank you for your attention to this as it helps keep a record for conferences in December.
As some of you may know, 5C has a Twitter page. Follow our feed to see occasional photos and updates!
Curriculum
Understanding the sequence of events is important to comprehension. We are also learning the difference between proper and common nouns (and acronyms such as NASA, NCAA, and GOP).
Writing
We are in a personal narrative unit. Please ask your children what their stories are really about. Not just a trip to the beach, for example, but the time they realized something, or learned the importance of a relationship. We'll also be talk about slooooowing down the heart of the story, and elaborating using dialogue, internal thinking, small actions and sensory details.
Math
Unit 2 will cover exponents, powers of 10, and traditional multiplication.
Science
We will begin exploring the properties of motors next.
Social Studies
Longitude and latitude are essential to finding our way (GPS devices rely on this form of absolute location). We're also studying the different types of landforms, from sea to shining sea.
