Don't let the storm steal your song!~Mrs. Slack
Dear EHE Families,
I hope that you had a great weekend and were able to enjoy the amazing weather! We continue to #PressOn at Eagle. There are several updates for you in this newsletter. You will also find our important dates calendar attached here. Please note that these days are subject to change. We have one more week for our Little Warrior fundraiser. If you have not donated to this, please consider donating and ask your friends and family to donate as well. The funds raised go directly towards activities for our students!
Kindly,
Mrs. Slack
- Parent-Teacher Conferences- Teachers will email home a link to sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences this Friday, October 8. We prefer our conferences are face-to-face, but teachers will provide a virtual conference if a family needs it. Please reach out to your child's teacher if this is the case.
- Bus Appreciation Week- October 18th-22nd is National Bus Driver Appreciation Week. Tell your bus driver you appreciate them this week!
- Fall Parties- Fall parties are scheduled for Friday, October 29th. PTO does an amazing job coordinating, hosting, and celebrating with students that day! Our PTO will send out a sign-up genius for volunteers and donations next week. Please keep an eye open for this!
People either view rain as a blessing or an inconvenience. How do you view challenges?~Mrs. Slack

PTO Update and Membership Goal
We have set a goal for every class to have 100% participation this year in our PTO membership. We are asking each family to have at least one member enroll as a PTO member for $10. This money is used for our student celebrations throughout the year! Any class that has 100% participation will earn a Rootbeer Float party! If every family has one member join per class, we will raise almost $5000! Here is the form to sign up for a PTO membership!
Our PTO provides amazing support and opportunities for our students. We really need your help! Please consider serving on the board or volunteering.
PTO Tailgate
We are thrilled that the district-wide tailgate party is back this year! The tailgate party is FREE and open to all families in the district. This year it is being held on Friday, October 15th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Horizon parking lot. Please consider donating an item, or your time, to this event! You can use the link provided below to volunteer or donate an item.

Physical Education: Coach Parker
With colder winter weather right around the corner, please make sure to have your student bring the correct PE shoes to school. Have your student pack an extra pair of gym shoes in their backpack if they are going to wear boots to school. Gym shoes are much easier on the hardwood floor than boots. K-1st graders have continued to work on their spatial awareness with different balance, tag, and locomotor games. They have continued to work on different locomotor movements (skip, gallop, slide, bear crawl) through different games in PE. They have also worked on their throwing and catching. Our 2nd-6th graders have started their volleyball unit and are learning how to bump, set, pass, and serve. Their next unit in PE will be football/ultimate football. Students are getting ready to do their first round of fitness testing for the year (pacer, situp, sit and reach, pushup test). In PE, we will continue to use teamwork, sportsmanship, and focus on trying our hardest to achieve a goal.

Happy fall EHE families! We have had a great start to our school year. K-2 students have been using their drawing supply caddies for several weeks now. K-1 is beginning to use the collage caddies now. 2nd grade is making their clay pumpkins with the option of making it into a jack-o-lantern. In between drying and kiln firings they will also be using the collage supply caddies. 3-5 graders have been using drawing center supplies and are also now being introduced to the supplies found in the collage studio. 6th grade 2D art has been working on learning 1-point and 2-point perspective and then we spent a few days taking advantage of the nice weather and we went outside to draw the front of our school! We are getting ready to work on some LED paper circuitry and add some lights to our work next!
We are using Artsonia again this year for students’ portfolios. You should have received an email from Artsonia about how to login for your student(s) account if you are new to Artsonia. If you didn’t get an email from Artsonia, I don’t have a good email of yours to give to them. Email me at aeschlia@smithville.k12.mo.us and let me know what email you prefer, your students name, and teacher, and I will get it entered into Artsonia as soon as I can. Artsonia is very private with only their first name and a number assigned to them online. No private identifiable information is published online and you can see your students’ work, along with visiting the gift shop and purchasing products that have your students' work printed on it. If you signed up last year, you don’t need to sign up again, it will roll over to this year. Artsonia is an amazing company that also offers you the option to invite other family members (think grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) to become a part of your student(s) fan club, so even if they do not live nearby they can see what is being created at school!
I do have an Amazon wish list for EHE because the yearly budget only affords me the very basics in art supplies. If you would like to help support our art studio and the EHE artists go to my wish list here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/TAO5QQQYZRM2?ref_=wl_share
Here is a photo of some of the supplies already
bought and donated to our art studio:
THANK YOU so much for all of your support! You are an amazing school to work for!
Sincerely,

Kindergarten and First will be playing percussion instruments and READING music this month. We will also mix in a few music games. Behaviorist Blurb: Mrs. Opperman
Hello Eagle Heights Families!
I’m excited to be permanently joining the Eagle Heights family as the Behavior Interventionist this year! Last year I served as one of our long-term BI substitutes. It didn’t take long before I fell in love with the amazing students, staff, and families here at Eagle Heights. While this will be my second year in a traditional educational setting, I’ve spent over a decade working with students. One of my greatest passions in life is advocating for the next generation.
What is a behavior interventionist? My goal is to help students transition from a bad day to a good day. The exciting new addition of our Care Room is set up to do just that! The vision of our care room is to care for each student that walks through the doors. The room includes a sensory area, calming corner, a book nook, and many more tools to better support the needs of our students (I may even have a trampoline in my room)!
By far, the highlight of the last month has been visiting each classroom to introduce myself, and let your students know I’m here to support them! You all have some fantastic kiddos. I believe establishing positive relationships with your students will make all the difference as we are developing leaders.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’m here to support your students and family!
Mrs. Opperman

Grade Level Spotlight: Kindergarten
Kindergarten is excited for our upcoming field trip to The Red Barn Farm in Weston on October 22nd. We are continuing practicing procedures and expectations and we are so proud of how quickly they mastered these skills. In Reader's Workshop, we are learning about how everyone is a reader. Students have learned they can read by looking at the pictures, retelling, and reading words. In Math, we have been practicing writing numbers and counting. Kindergarten is learning how to be proactive by solving conflicts in respectful ways. We are having a great start to the 21-22 school year. Thank you for sharing your child with us.
