English Language Arts (ELA)
Unit 7 Week 1
Essential Question: How are some animals alike and how are they different?
Word Work
- Discriminating between short /u/ and long /u/ in the middle of words.
- Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds in three-phoneme words.
- Write a letter or letters for most consonant and short-vowel sounds (phonemes).
- High – Frequency Words: “for” “have”
Shared Reading
- Retell information from a non – fiction book.
- Retell the story by sequencing it’s events.
- Use punctuation and question words to identify the repeating words in the story.
- Retell a related non – fiction book by identifying the animal and their offspring.
Grammar/Writing
- Verbs
- Write and draw to give information about animals.
- Tell similarities and differences about 2 animals.
- Draw pictures that match spoken contributions.

Identify facts about animals (their seasonal behavior habitat and offspring).
Name other animal habitats and offspring.
Computer
Have your child keep practicing their username and password when getting onto BCPS One to practice Dreambox.
Below are the steps that you and your child can use.
- Go to www.bcps.org.
- Go to students and click on BCPS One.
- Have your child log into their BCPS One account using their personal user name and password.
- Click on Digital Content.
- Click on "d" to open Dreambox.
- Complete at least 2 lessons.

Volunteer Training
Birthday Celebration
This is when we celebrate your child's birthday during a monthly celebration. You are welcome to come in and join in the singing and celebration. You are also welcome to send in a short activity, goodie bags, an indoor/outdoor recess toy to keep at school, etc. Remember time is limited and some months have 3-4 birthday. No food or siblings. If you are planning to have your child dismiss with you that day please send in a note on that day stating that you would like to have your child dismiss early (3:25) with you.
