The Manning Weekly Newsletter
November 2, 2018
Dear Families,
It was another whirlwind week here at Manning with a lot of amazing things happening! Time flies when we're having fun. Our teachers continue to impress us with their creative lesson plans, but more importantly, with how much they continue to put our students first! Please check out some of the pictures from this week to get a glimpse inside our building, but realize it's only a fraction of what we are up to!
Have a great weekend. Don't forget to set back your clocks...
David / Mr. Luongo
Thank You from the PTA
The Manning PTA would like to give a huge thanks to everyone who came to Fall Fest! Whether you brought an amazing chili, bought something fun at the auction, volunteered your time, or came to try the chili (not to mention the delicious desserts!), we’re grateful for your generosity and support! With a record number of attendees, the event was a great success, and we couldn’t have done it without you!

PLC Update
- Creating the next unit's authentic task.
- Analyzing the department's authentic tasks for both authenticity and vertical alignment around this question: Do our grade level assessments get more rigorous over time?
- Bringing student work to calibrate grading. Looking for an advanced, a proficient and an almost student example to create exemplars for future classes.
- Determining what patterns of error we identify in student work in order to create re-teach/re-learn instruction.
At Manning, we strive to live our core values every day.
HONESTY
When I looked in the grade book, I had a 300% on a assignment. I realized that this grade was wrong, so I went to talk to Mrs. Sawyer about it. She said that she made a mistake, and the total points was wrong. She respected me by admitting to her mistake, and was honest, by fixing it, and saying to me that she was wrong.
EFFORT
- In the beginning of the year, Ella Matheo only knew a few people, and we quickly made friends even though we have a lot of social anxiety about meeting new people.
- I am nominating Mr. Metcalf because he tends to make science a little more interesting, especially on Fridays.
- Robert Martin never stops trying to learn more in science, and is very kind.
- I dropped all my stuff on the floor and out of everyone walking Sofia Aguilar offered to help.
- During Mrs. Mendez's 5th Period class, a lot of people wanted to help, during script reading, passing out papers, and just helping in general.
- Nathan Maddox has been consistently working hard and seeking support to improve his grade and to grow as a writer.
- I feel like Lea Coggins always is contributing to the group and sharing her ideas. She is not afraid to speak out and be heard. Her strong sense of wanting to do her best is admirable. Lea is a great classmate and student.
- Ms. Keodonexay puts in effort to make all of our creative writing activities fun and interesting. I always look forward to her class!
ACHIEVEMENT
- Weather McElhaney got over her nerves and did really well for the Musical Theatre monologue.
- Mrs. Sawyer is by far the best teacher I have had. She makes sure that we understand what we are learning. She makes our notes easy to take and easy to keep them organized. She stays super late after school to make sure she can make our lessons better for us. Mrs. Sawyer does her job well and she deserves to win! Thank you for being such an amazing teacher.
- Mrs. Pouliot is an amazing teacher. She always tries her best everyday to fit the needs of each individual student. With that, she teaches every student differently. She teaches her material exceptionally well, going above and beyond the criteria. In doing this, she makes sure that no student is left behind. When I first had her as a teacher, I was a student. When she stopped teaching me, I was a responsible young woman, who wanted that A for me and a leader. She helped/taught me so many more things than that, there are too many to name. She deserves all the HEART nominations, but especially achievement and a Thank you.
- Addison Helms is the owner of a quotes document, that is currently shared with 78+ people. She told people to pass it on and called it the Inspiration Station. It is sooo amazing and suppose to help make the world a better place. Personally, I am already touched. I think that I could go on and on but it is just a touching concept and it turned out amazing. We are still working on it now and so many people of contributed to just one persons idea! I love that Addison did this and you should add on to it too! Good job Addison, what a great idea!
- Eva Keevan is always so happy and energetic. She is an amazing singer and I am lucky to have her in my Algebra class and in Images. She is kind to everyone and makes everyone feel happy.
RESPECT
- Gianna Bergren is super sweet and she makes me smile when I'm in a bad mood.
- Ella Klinger has a bottom locker and when the girl above her drops her stuff on Ella on accident she helps her pick it up instead of being mad.
- Reina Klatt cares about everybody and she is a good friend!
- River Bochow helps me in my classes and he always reminds me to do my homework.
- Gunnar Tande always understands if I'm going through a hard time. At recess he always helps me understand the rules if we are playing a game. At lunch he talks to me when nobody else will. Thanks Gunnar!
- Soli Fico, in musical theater made me feel better about messing up on my audition by saying that she didn't have a personal favorite audition. Thank Soli!! <<33
- Every time I see Soli Fico in the hallways, she always smiles at me or, is already smiling.
- Graham Truesdel was kind and held the door for others during passing period.
- Ally Ricketson noticed another 6th grader was having a hard time getting her locker closed. Instead of going to lunch/recess she helped her reorganize her locker over the next 10 minutes. By putting the needs of others first Ally demonstrated true HEART.
TEAMWORK
- Liam Mapes always makes sure that I am on task and doing my homework.
- Ms. McLeod's 7th Period class always make me laugh and cheer me up.
- Olivia Eakins always helps me out when I need it in all of my classes. She pays attention and always reminds me to do my homework
- Vincent Ma helped Student Council decorate for the Halloween Dance, even when he isn't on the council! His help really made the dance better, and thanks to him, it was better than we thought it would be!
- Abby Clawson and Addi Samter always help me with my locker when we are going to lunch, if everyone else has gone, they wait for me to finish putting my stuff away, and even offer to help me with my locker! I am very lucky to call them my friends.
- Ms. Wendy Leach-Flusche is a great teammate! I consistently see her pursuing what is best for her students by teaming with other teachers to work together to determine what would best meet their needs.
