What Does a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Look Like?
It is a school where children, parents and staff strive to do their best in all that they do. They persevere when teaching and learning is difficult. They work through obstacles like masks, social distancing, and sickness. They make wise choices when no one is looking. They do what they should do without anyone asking them. They love others whether they are like them or completely different from them. They care about their friends and are always ready to help them when needed. They admit when they are wrong and stand up for what is right. They stop and listen. Then, they give their opinion. They don’t expect rewards for doing what’s right but seek to recognize others who make a difference. They know that everyone, no matter their job title, is important. They appreciate the opportunities all around them and say “thank you” as much as possible. They smile, laugh, and have fun. They work when it is time to work, and they play when it is time to play. They don’t get the two mixed up. They know that excellence is seeing where they can become better today and working on that tomorrow.
What is a Blue Ribbon School? Cherry Park Elementary is a Blue Ribbon School!! We were selected and notified of that recognition and celebrated on last Wednesday. Thank you for your support of our school and your child. You are a major reason we accomplished that goal. That makes you "blue ribbon" parents and staff members.
Strength and Blessings,
Mr. Maness
P.S. See below for a short video of our celebration.
Please note that this same newsletter will be sent next Sunday, April 17, as well. Enjoy your Spring Break.
Notes and Reminders
Blue Ribbon Week Activities--We invite you to celebrate with us our National Blue Ribbon School designation. Here are activities planned for next week.
Tuesday—Everybody Had a Hand In It Activity--Students will draw around their hand and cut it out for a display.
Wednesday—Blue Carpet Day—Wear as much blue as you can. Children can walk the blue carpets as they come into the building.
Thursday—It’s a Treat to Be a Blue Ribbon School—Blue treats for kids.
Friday—It’s Bigger Than Any of Us—We will take a whole school picture with our Blue Ribbon T-shirts. (T-shirts will be provided by the school.)
Welcome Back Parents--We are excited to have parents visiting back with us a t Cherry Park. If you are volunteering at Field Day or on a Field Trip or in any other capacity, you must have an updated Background Check that has been done in the last two years. Please see the link below for doing this. (Most volunteers will need to have one updated.) We will begin having parents visit for lunch starting Tuesday, April 19. Please keep the following in mind when you come for lunch:
- Parents can sit at designated empty tables inside or outside the cafeteria. Parents should not sit with classes at their tables.
- Parents need to wrap up their time eating with their child when lunch ends. Students should join the class as they dismiss from the cafeteria.
- Parents cannot walk back to class or recess with their child after lunch.
- Lunch time is a time for parents to spend with their child. It is not appropriate to invite other children to sit with you or a time to conference with teachers. Also, please do not ask the office to call your other children in other grade levels to come and eat lunch during this time.
- Parents should sign in at the office upon arrival and sign out at the office so we can account for who is in the building. Visitors need to be on the child’s emergency contact list and need to bring their license for screening as always.
- Lunch is $4.40 for adults. If you'd like to eat with us, just join your child in line to get your lunch.
Spring Testing Dates--Are listed below on the Calendar section and you can click on the button below for dates. Please check those dates and please reschedule any appointments you have for your child on those dates. Children do best on their tests when they take them with their own teachers in their own classrooms.
Field Day--We will have Field Day for K, 1st and 2nd on Tuesday, May 24 in the morning. If you would like to volunteer to help that day, please click on the following link to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0D4EACAC22AB9-k2field2 Field Day for 3rd, 4th and 5th will be Wednesday, May 25.
