Buckalew Bears Motto:

"Today I choose to BE Kind, Work Hard, and Do My BEst!"

Our school hours are officially 8:00-3:10. Students may arrive as early as 7:30 and will go to their homeroom beginning at that time.

*disclaimer that items published in this newsletter may change due the COVID-19 pandemic*

From Mrs. Price

Buckalew Families,

Thank you to our incredible PTO and parents who donated items for our silent auction and for those who bid on items at our silent auction. Our PTO was able to raise over $16,000 for operating budgets and helping us get closer to 1:1 technology devices. We also want to thank you all for participating in our after school play date fundraisers as we had our last grade level play date last week.

Thank you to all parents who survived our Severe Weather car rider line on Friday. That was our first Severe Weather dismissal in over 2 years. If you do NOT have a car rider sign for your car, please email your teacher directly and request one so we can make sure everyone has one. The car rider dismissal pick up sign is something that should stay in your car for the possibility of severe weather pick up at all times. It is a layer of safety we have to protect your children, and to ensure they go with the adult who has been given a dismissal card. We thank you for your patience as we know it was a long line, but it was a good experience to know what we can do to improve and fortunately, our tornado watch did not change to a tornado warning.

We are busy planning for the end of the school year and are also planning for our beginning of the 21-22 school year. Please make sure you have submitted your intentions next year as this helps with our grade level planning. I have included the link here in case you have not completed it, or you can find it below in the Buzz.

Have a GREAT week,

Mrs. Price

"Hello all 4th graders and parents!!

We did not get to have a traditional 4th grade choir this year as we would have hoped, and for that I am so sorry. I know many of you were looking forward to that for a while. Maybe you're interested in joining choir at Mitchell or Collins and maybe some of you are also interested in participating in the Cantate Choir Camp at Mitchell (open to all students, even going to Collins) in July. Maybe you aren't really sure what choir is all about! I want to help you!!

Join us for TWO DAYS of a "Choir Preview" to get a chance to experience what a choir rehearsal feels like!! Read the image below to see what and when it is and how to sign up. The link to sign up is here

https://forms.gle/Tmchr45d9bKbHao18

Please rest assured that we are taking all safety measures necessary to continue to wear masks and socially distance, which is why we are having separate days for different classes. There will be group A and B. Please reference the attachment for the group you are assigned.

I hope you'll join me for this exciting time and if nothing else, to just have some fun after school! And yes, there is an online option for our remote learners! If you have any questions, please email me at sdramirez@conroeisd.net. I'm happy to serve you!

Musically yours,

Mrs. Ramirez"

May's Character Trait Responsibility

Everyone wants their child to grow up to be a responsible adult, but how do you teach responsibility? Dr. Karen Ruskin, author of The 9 Key Techniques for Raising Respectful Children Who Make Responsible Choices, explains that when it comes to teaching responsibility parents should:

  1. Start young
  2. Let children help in the home
  3. Show kids the way to complete age-appropriate tasks
  4. Model responsibility
  5. Give honest praise
  6. Manage your expectations and refrain from criticism
  7. Avoid rewards unless a task goes above and beyond
  8. Provide structure and routine
  9. Allow your child to accept negative consequences

All current safety protocols will remain in effect until further notice. Conroe ISD is committed to providing the safest learning environment for its students and staff and keeping schools open.

From our Police Department:

A few friendly reminders in regards to school zone safety and car rider drop off safety:

  • Please remember to remind your children NOT to cross until the crossing guards are at their posts in the morning. The building is not open until 7:30.
  • Please remember if you are in your car, to wait for the crossing guards not only to cross the children, but for the crossing guards themselves to make it back to the sidewalk.
  • Please remember to stay off your cell phones when driving in school zones.
  • Please remember their are NO DOGS allowed on school property. This is for your personal liability and the safety of all of our students.
  • Please remember there are no U-Turns in front of the school.
  • Lakeside Park- if you are dropping your kids off or picking them up from Lakeside Park please park your vehicle to do so. It becomes a safety issue to just drive up and let your kids out or have them get in without parking. Please use our car line in the back of Buckalew if you want just drop off your child.

Visiting the School

While at a Level 3 in CISD, parents are not allowed in the building. We now have added 3 reserved parking spaces for our parents if they do need something from the school. We ask that you park in one of the 3 reserved spaces and call the number rather than walk up to the door. This will maintain safety on a variety of levels.
