From Mrs. Price
Thank you to our incredible PTO and parents who donated items for our silent auction and for those who bid on items at our silent auction. Our PTO was able to raise over $16,000 for operating budgets and helping us get closer to 1:1 technology devices. We also want to thank you all for participating in our after school play date fundraisers as we had our last grade level play date last week.
Thank you to all parents who survived our Severe Weather car rider line on Friday. That was our first Severe Weather dismissal in over 2 years. If you do NOT have a car rider sign for your car, please email your teacher directly and request one so we can make sure everyone has one. The car rider dismissal pick up sign is something that should stay in your car for the possibility of severe weather pick up at all times. It is a layer of safety we have to protect your children, and to ensure they go with the adult who has been given a dismissal card. We thank you for your patience as we know it was a long line, but it was a good experience to know what we can do to improve and fortunately, our tornado watch did not change to a tornado warning.
We are busy planning for the end of the school year and are also planning for our beginning of the 21-22 school year. Please make sure you have submitted your intentions next year as this helps with our grade level planning. I have included the link here in case you have not completed it, or you can find it below in the Buzz.

"Hello all 4th graders and parents!!
We did not get to have a traditional 4th grade choir this year as we would have hoped, and for that I am so sorry. I know many of you were looking forward to that for a while. Maybe you're interested in joining choir at Mitchell or Collins and maybe some of you are also interested in participating in the Cantate Choir Camp at Mitchell (open to all students, even going to Collins) in July. Maybe you aren't really sure what choir is all about! I want to help you!!
Join us for TWO DAYS of a "Choir Preview" to get a chance to experience what a choir rehearsal feels like!! Read the image below to see what and when it is and how to sign up. The link to sign up is here
Please rest assured that we are taking all safety measures necessary to continue to wear masks and socially distance, which is why we are having separate days for different classes. There will be group A and B. Please reference the attachment for the group you are assigned.
I hope you'll join me for this exciting time and if nothing else, to just have some fun after school! And yes, there is an online option for our remote learners! If you have any questions, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I'm happy to serve you!
Hi Buckalew Bears! I'm Mrs. Points, your school counselor. With each Buzz, I will have resources to support the social and emotional learning of our students. If your family has a specific need you would like to contact me about, please don't hesitate to email me at email@example.com.
May's Character Trait Responsibility
Everyone wants their child to grow up to be a responsible adult, but how do you teach responsibility? Dr. Karen Ruskin, author of The 9 Key Techniques for Raising Respectful Children Who Make Responsible Choices, explains that when it comes to teaching responsibility parents should:
- Start young
- Let children help in the home
- Show kids the way to complete age-appropriate tasks
- Model responsibility
- Give honest praise
- Manage your expectations and refrain from criticism
- Avoid rewards unless a task goes above and beyond
- Provide structure and routine
- Allow your child to accept negative consequences
Buckalew Class Placement Considerations
If your student has an older sibling, we try to honor your request to have his/her younger sibling taught by the same Buckalew teacher. If your family has a sibling request or any other information you'd like to give the placement committee, please complete the below link no later than Monday, April 26th.
Class placement begins the first week of May, so forms sent after April 26th may not be considered in our placement process. We sincerely thank you for your time and support in this process.

Join the PTO
The Buckalew PTO promotes the welfare of our students and fosters cooperation between parents and teachers, working hard each year to ensure our students have access to the best education possible. It is a team effort and there are many positions open next school year. Have you considered serving? We'd love to have you and we have several openings! Here are the positions we will fill for the 2021-2022 school year. Nominations will be accepted through March 15th. Please contact our PTO Parliamentarian, Julie Naughton, firstname.lastname@example.org, if you are interested, want more information or would like to nominate yourself. Please know that our executive board members serve a two-year term. Prior PTO experience is a plus but not required. Our Treasurer spot is an especially critical position to fill and does require a background in accounting and/or finance. Elections will be held in the event there is more than one nominee for an executive board position. Seats will be confirmed at the April PTO Zoom Meeting. Names with an asterisk are nominees, all others are returning for their second year.

CISD Health and Safety Protocols
Conroe ISD is reviewing the newly released guidance from the Texas Education Agency which supports our current safety practices. District administration will be meeting with local health authorities and advisory groups this week to discuss the District’s health and safety protocols for the remainder of the year. All current safety protocols will remain in effect until further notice. Conroe ISD is committed to providing the safest learning environment for its students and staff and keeping schools open.
Determining Regular or Close Contact at School
- Individual who has had close contact (within 6 feet for 15 minutes or longer) with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 up to 48 hrs prior to symptom onset.
- Individual who has had close contact (within 6 feet for 15 minutes or longer) with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 within 2 days prior to the person developing symptoms and/or testing positive.

- Individual who had direct physical contact with someone who has COVID-19 including touched, hugged, or kissed them, shared eating or drinking utensils, or were sneezed or coughed on by the sick person while they had symptoms or within 2 days of the sick person developing symptoms and/or testing positive.
