Virtual Transition Days for 8th Grade Students
The Franklin High School Counselors will be organizing virtual Academic & Career Planning (ACP) Conferences on Tuesday, April 28, Thursday, April 30, and Friday, May 1 from 10:30 am to 11:15 am. Each 8th grader will be scheduled into a 45 minute small group conference on one of these days.
The purpose of this activity is to connect the current 8th graders with an FHS teacher / staff member as well as an FHS Student Mentor to explore the interests, skills, and goals they will bring with them to high school. Students have prepared for this conference by completing ACP work in Xello this year and should be logged into their Xello account during their conference.
All 8th graders will be divided into groups of 6 students and will participate through GoogleMeet.
*Their assigned FHS staff mentor will send them an invitation prior to their assigned day
*We will provide everyone with their group assignments during the week of April 20
In addition to their ACP Conference from 10:30 to 11:15 am, students will be required to watch three short videos (to be shared with them the week of April 20):
Important information from the High School Counselors (5 minutes)
Words of Advice from current FHS Freshman (5 minutes)
Activities & Athletics information from Mr. Hein (10 minutes)
After watching the videos and participating in their ACP Conference, students will be asked to complete a short reflective survey to provide us feedback on their experience. All FHS School Counselors will have “office hours” each of these days so students can easily connect with us regarding any ACP related questions or concerns.
We will provide all students a condensed version of these instructions prior to their assigned conference day.
We have asked FPMS teachers to adjust work expectations on these days accordingly as we are asking students to invest about 60-90 minutes of time in ACP related work.
Please reach out to your assigned High School Counselor with any questions or concerns. We are happy to talk more and excited to help our students on their journey through high school!
