From Mr. Lucita

Closing out another week of excitement and looking forward to the next!! What a week we had! We saw the arrival of our Jaguar Band Trailer and our first football game.

This week things change a little for us where our practice schedule and game are concerned. Please make sure everyone looks at the calendar! No Monday practice, there is practice on Wednesday afternoon, morning rehearsal on Thursday and a home game Thursday evening!

This week we will perform part of our marching production “Our Journey” for the home crowd! We know everyone will enjoy the show!

I know I have said each week and I will continue to do so because it is worth more than you can imagine: thank you so much to our wonderful parents and boosters!! You have been instrumental in our success and I can’t wait to see where we go!

First annual Jaguar Jog 5K/10K!

Our inaugural Jaguar Jog 5K/ 10K is Saturday, September 21st.

This will be the start of a Johnson High tradition to be carried on for years to come!!

We need volunteers to help us make this first Jaguar Jog a success!!

Whether you have a current Jaguar Band member or a future Jag band member, please consider giving a few hours of your time to help!

This is a great opportunity for students to earn volunteer service hours as well!

Pit Crew Thank You and Call For Help!

THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered at the first game!

This Thursday, 9/5, we will need 6-8 folks at 4:30 pm at the band hall to move equipment to the field for this weeks home game. Trucks would be helpful. After the game, we need another 6-8 folks, again with trucks, to move equipment back to the band hall.

Email pitcrew@johnsonbands.com, text 512-468-8319 or use the Pit Crew Remind if you can help.

(Pit Crew Remind: text @pitcrewja to 81010)

Game Day Meals

THANK YOU to the volunteers who helped with game day meals last week! We still have a few slots available if you are able to help out for future games.

Want to help out our Johnson Jaguar Band and Color Guard for Game Day meals? Yay! If you can pick up meals from local restaurants (Will be called and paid for) or help to serve, please sign up below. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings and friends are welcome too! If you don't have a background check filed with Hays as a volunteer, please click below to get it started. The times are subject to change as I figure out when the kids need to be fed.

Big picture

Big Brother/Big Sister Program (aka "Band Siblings")

This is a Band run program that partners up incoming freshman with an upperclassman in the band program. The older student offers encouragement, support, and advice on how to best navigate membership in the Jaguar Band. Traditionally, on game days or other special occasions, the “siblings” exchange some type of small gift. These are not elaborate gifts! An ice-cold drink, candy, etc are all nice gestures! These pairings will be given soon!

Thank you to Theater!

We are so grateful to Miss Gates and the Theater program for lending us one of their rooms to use as a sewing room for hemming our band uniforms! We look forward to always having a wonderful relationship with our fellow fine arts programs!

Helpful Reminders For Game Days

  • Always pack/store uniform parts back in ONE bag so that it is ready for the next game or competition
  • Short black socks are required
  • Black belt is required
  • Students should pack (and be encouraged to use) deodorant. Game days are long and hot!
  • Label caps, shoes (initials on the label on the inside of shoes), shirts, shorts, belts (anything they are changing in to and out of). If we find these items we have no way of knowing who to return them to. With so many kids changing and carrying their clothes around, stuff inevitably gets dropped or left behind. Paint pens (these come in all colors including silver or gold which can be seen on black) or Sharpie laundry markers work best for this. Any other pen or marker will rub off.

Sync Your Calendar to Charms!

Syncing your online (mobile device or computer) calendar to Charms means any changes made to practices, games, events, etc., will automatically be updated in your calendar. While you might see some things that do not apply to your student, having too much information may be better than not having enough!

Visit the Johnson Band Website for information on how to sync the Charms calendar to your phone. "How to sync" links are located above calendar. Just click on link appropriate for your type of phone!

How To Sign Up For Remind 101

Remind 101 is a communication option used by lots of teachers and clubs. Once signed up, you can either get the app and look at your messages in the app or you can receive the messages as a text message (or both).

To sign up for Remind 101 for band notifications:

  1. Send a text message to 81010 (enter this number where you would enter the phone number)
  2. The message will be @jagband19 (type this where you would type your text message)
  3. Hit "send"
  4. If you did this successfully, you will receive a text informing you that you signed up for the band remind messages.

Signing up for Remind for other clubs or classes will be similar. You will always send a text to 81010 but what you type into the text box will be different. For example, for an English class, it might be @smithsenglishclass.
