Black History Month

Our celebration of Black History Month concludes with recognizing two amazing athletes whose hard work, mental focus and physical dedication helped them achieve amazing feats in their sports and in history.

Serena Williams

Serena Williams is arguably one of the best tennis players of all time - she's won multiple Grand Slam titles, Olympic gold medals and more. Serena grew up in Compton, California and worked hard each day to train with her dad and sister. She faced a great deal of adversity and criticism throughout her career but she had a remarkable spirit to rise above the criticism and still be the best year after year.

Quote from Serena Williams

"You have to believe in yourself when no one else does."

Hank Aaron

Henry “Hammerin’ Hank” Aaron was one of baseball's all-time greats. He played 23 seasons in Major League Baseball and was the first player to record 500 homers and 3,000 hits. He's best known for hitting his 715th home run and breaking the long-standing record. After retiring as a player, he became one of baseball's first Black executive leaders and worked for the rest of his life to push for civil rights and opportunities for people of all races and backgrounds.

Quote from Hank Aaron

“Failure is a part of success. There is no such thing as a bed of roses all your life. But failure will never stand in the way of success if you learn from it.”
