NSCAS Annual Testing for 3rd through 6th Grade
The second semester is an especially important time for our students as they focus their efforts and attention on school. Important assessments will be administered between March 25th and May 3rd. Your child’s teacher will have specific dates they will communicate when students are taking assessments.
The State Accountability Tests (NSCAS) are given to students in grades 3-6. Students are expected to read on grade level, problem solve, and respond to critical thinking questions. Families can access the Nebraska Department of Education Website at:
http://www.education.ne.gov/ to learn more about the assessments.
Simple things your family can do to support your child during these tests are:
- Ensure a regular bedtime and plenty of rest.
- Make sure students get breakfast in the morning either at home or at school. Our breakfast program begins serving at 8:15am.
- Talk with your child about strategies they've learned to do well. Encourage them to do their best and to know that adults are proud of their efforts at school.
If either you or your child has additional questions please don't hesitate to ask your child's teacher or contact Mr. Higginbotham.

Parking and Traffic Reminders for Pick Up and Drop Off
As a parent of a Rockbrook student, drop off and pickup are important routines to know about. Below is a list of procedures for parking, drop off, and dismissal. Following these procedures helps to promote safety and efficiency at these busy times of day. Thank you for your help in promoting the safety of our Rockbrook students and families.
South Parking Lot
- When dropping off or picking up, go as far in the parking lot as you can ★.
- Children should use the sidewalk near the south playground in order to keep walking in the parking lot to a minimum.
- Please do not pass stopped cars in front of you.
Circle Drive - Bus & Accessibility Parking Only
- Students should not be picked up or dropped off in the circle drive unless they ride the bus or have a need for accessible parking or access.
- Please do not park in the painted curb area of the circle drive at any time of the day. This space must be kept clear for emergency vehicles.
North Parking Lot
- Drop your child(ren) off on the south side of the parking lot so they have quick access to the sidewalk★.
- When picking up your child, continue to circle in the parking lot until you see your child(ren) are ready or use an available parking spot. There is a loop lane and an exit lane.
7th Grade Requirements
Physicals and Immunizations
From our Middle School Nurse:
Nebraska law requires all students entering 7th grade to have a complete physical (also fulfills the requirements for a sports physical).
• For those playing sports, physicals must be performed after May 1st; for all others, examinations must be performed after March 1st.
• A Tdap booster given after 10 years of age prior to entering 7th grade is also required.
Please call your health care provider to schedule your child's physical and immunizations (call now—appointments fill up fast). Once completed, we ask that you turn in your completed physicals, along with immunizations,
to the ABC Building (909 S. 76th Street) before August 1st.
Please email questions to smith.melissaa@westside66.net.

Rockbrook Field Day
Field Day This year Field Day will be on May 17th . Our Student Council sponsors themed buddy activitys, including stations for fun and fitness, as well as a healthy snack. We feel adding some adult support will really help make for a fun set of afternoon stations that kids enjoy. We are looking for volunteers able to help. If interested please contact Mr. Higginbotham higginbotham.garret@westside66.net.
TAGG Challenge
Since Rockbrook registered, we've seen steady growth in the use of this easy way to raise money for the school. During the month of April, we'll be hosting our first Rockbrook TAGG Challenge. When families TAGG their purchases during April we'll keep track of the giving by class. What's more, the two classes with the top giving will receive a special surprise.
